I have to thank the amazing drawing talent of

"Alex could only watch in astonishment. He did not feel fear or panic as the large blue beast stepped up towards him, his claws clicking on the cold stone ground. The young man stared at the dragon slowly walking towards him, not running like wolf running after a deer, or a cat crouching towards its prey, but gently, slowly, friendly.
The whole while Alex stared into those deep crystal blue eyes that were fixed on him the whole time, the dragon eyeing him carefully. Only when the scaly beast was a few steps away, he noticed something peculiar. The dragon was wearing a large blue bandana around his neckbase, nearly the same color as the scales on his lower side. That sight of a dragon, a mythic beast Alex has always admired and wished they were real, wearing clothing briefly confused the young human. But only until the dragon was standing right in front of him.
The dragon was large, bigger than a horse. His long neck slightly bent as the scaled creature stared down into Alex's eyes, a clear intelligence shown inside them.
"I knew you would show up, Alex. Your curiosity always had been strong for such things." The dragon spoke with a deep, rumbling voice, yet to Alex's ears it had a familiar ring to it, as if he had heard the voice before.
"Matt...is this...really you?" The young man finally said, staring back in awe and also quite some shock, the blue dragon giving him a toothy grin.
"Who else could it be, my friend. You think there could be somebody else you know that would send you a single text to invite you to this hidden and forgotten castle, talking about solving a mystery older than the pyramids?" The dragon chuckled, his hot moist breath washing over Alex's face, yet to his surprise it did not stink or anything. It was the scent of a beast, yes, strong and earthy, with a hint of firewood.
Matt eyed his friend gently, trying to not look to intimidating. He knew both his size and shape was looking quite threatening and scaring. But neither Alex's face nor his scent showed any kind of fear, quite the opposite. He seemed happy, no, he was truly delighted to see his friend in this form.
"Matt...you look amazing...you are a dragon, a true, living dragon....how did you achieve this miracle?" He reached out a bit, his hand briefly rubbing over the large snout of his friend, more hot breath washing over his skin, giving him the goosebumps, even under his warm hoodie, before pulling his hand back again.
"Well, this is quite an amazing story, I admit. So better take a seat Alex, because this may take a while." Matt sat down on all fours in front of his friend, smirking as his human friend sat down on the cold stone floor quickly, waiting for his friend to start with his story.
"You know Alex that I had quite a penchant for old and ancient things. So about one month ago, I was strolling around the area to visit some of the old castles and ancient settlements around in the area. I thought I knew everyone around here, so you can imagine my surprise to find this one here, let alone finding one that is nearly fully intact. As you can guess, my own curiosity was woken quickly and I explored the big entrance hall, the one you entered this castle. And there I found something..."
Matt kept narrating for nearly 20 more Minutes, while Alex kept listening cautiously, eyes and ears wide open, watching his friend in astonishment as he explained how he got turned into a dragon by an ancient pendant he found in the castle, how he examined his new body and slowly got used to it all, then the parchment he had to translate from Latin to understand how the pendant worked. It all sounded like a fairy tale. But his friend was a dragon now and he was sitting right in front of him. He could barely believe his luck.
"You used what?" Alex asked and laughed, after Matt told him how he managed to translate the parchment.
"You heard me. I managed to access the cheat-sheet for my last Latin-test on my cell-phone. But I can tell you, with these clumsy fingers, it took me longer to get into the archive on my phone than to get used to my new body." He grumbled, a tiny cloud of smoke erupting from his nostrils, eliciting a snickering gasp of awe from Alex.
"Anyhow, even with this help, it was quite a task for me to translate the text on the parchment. Yet, what I could decipher was that for it to perform a transformation of a person it needed two things. First, it needed to be recharged after it was used. This is done by exposing it to simple sunlight, the gem in the middle seems to work like some sort of magic solar cell. The second thing it needs to transform somebody is much more difficult to obtain though."
Matt rumbled even more and looked deeply into his friend's brown eyes, as if he was looking for something, sending shivers down Alex's spine.
"And what is this second thing Matt? I must have been something you carried with you, otherwise the pendant would not have changed you."
The blue dragon merely nodded, before he brought his snout vis-a-vis to his friend's face, whispering the answer softly.
"The other thing it needed was...a dragon's soul."
Alex blinked briefly in disbelief. The soul of a dragon?
"So you were...a dragon all along, Matt?"
The large blue beast shrugged with his wings instead of his shoulders.
"Well, soul-wise it seems that way. The text was pretty vague though. But I had some very vivid dreams in the past few days. Hard to describe. It is a bit like remembering things, of another life, but it was not my life, it was the one of somebody else. My theory so far is, that dragons have lived alongside humans for a long time. But then when humans started to form their own civilizations, the dragons decided that they needed to hide. They turned themselves into humans, hiding among the 'natural' human." I don't understand why they would have done that though.
Ever since I am in this new body of mine, I am much more powerful than any human or group of human could ever be, let alone my new magic I recently discovered. Maybe there were human magic-users too that could threaten them, but so far no new memories have arisen, so I cannot tell you the reason for it."
Alex was staring at Matt in awe as he kept narrating, considering for a brief second to ask what kind of magic his friend had discovered, but decided otherwise.
"The pendant I found seems to be some sort of trigger, to release a dragon soul and reform the body it is inhabiting. At least that is how I understand it."
"Wait...if you said they turned themselves into humans and hid among natural humans...did they then mate with them too? I mean, you parents did not tell you anything about you having a dragon-soul, so I assume the knowledge got lost over time."
Matt simply nodded, his ears wiggling briefly.
"Yeah, I came to the same conclusion. But that does not mean, that there are millions of hidden dragons out there all over the world. You have to understand, I seem to have developed a new sense somehow. Guess you could call it telepathy, but not in the kind of that you can hear somebody in your mind talking. More like sensing something or someone.
As you could have guessed, after I deciphered the parchment, I was able to turn back into a human and return home. For the next few days, I did barely leave the house, was quite a tough thing to process, knowing that this pendant could release a dragon soul, that I had been a dragon all my life long.
But when I once left the house, there were several individuals that felt...different. That is the only way I could describe it. Not in an unpleasant way. But when I was near them, I felt this impression, and I think that is because these people are hidden dragons as well. But there were only very few of them. So maybe when somebody with a dragon-soul mates with a normal human, only one of their kids inherits a dragon-soul, maybe none at all, and only the next generation would develop one. I seriously have no idea.
But at least to some the knowledge of some 'humans' being able to turn themselves into dragons must have been alive at the time of the middle-ages, after all otherwise I would not have found that pendant here. Another fact is this side-building of the castle here."
He nodded up behind Alex, pointing with his muzzle towards the large open gate that was surely large enough for a dragon to fit through. It took Alex a few seconds to realize what his dragon friend meant, but then it dawned him. Whoever lived here, had regularly changed between human and dragon form, otherwise he would not have had a castle built with a hole in the wall large enough for a dragon to fit through.
"But there is also a special reason why I called you here, my friend. I could only guess so far, if your obsession with mythical creatures, especially dragons, was a sign of you being a dragon as well or not."
He lowered his head a bit more, now resting at the same height of his human friend's head, looking directly into his eyes.
Alex gasped as Matt revealed this to him. He had always been obsessed with dragons, all his life long, and even imagined himself as one...but the thought that he truly had been one...
"And...do you feel something, Matt? Is my soul the one of a dragon, or the one of a human?" As he said human, a shiver ran down his spine, afraid of what his friend might say.
Matt got now even nearer, until his snout-tip gentle bumped against Alex's snout, closing his eyes. An audible rumbling, yet also soft sound filled the air, as they both simply sat there for nearly a minute, as Matt stayed quiet, only concentrating on his friend.
Finally he pulled back and stood up, looking into his friend's face again, his face emotionless. Alex already wanted to sigh in disappointment, when to his surprise, Matt lifted his leg foreleg to his bandana and reached under it, pulling out the pendant. Lowering his large head and neck a bit, he pulled it slowly off himself, before offering the pendant with the crystal blue gem inside.
The pendant nearly vanished in his large paw, and for a brief second Alex was tempted to feel over it, before realizing what just happened. He would only be offered the pendant if Matt was sure that he had a dragon's soul as well.
He looked up again, and now a big toothy grin was all over the blue dragon's face, nodding towards the pendant.
With slightly shaking hands Alex took the piece of jewelry and quickly put it around his neck, his hoody still on.
"Wait, you should to take your clothes off, you'll shred them." Matt said.
"Why would I, I always dreamed of getting bigger. This way I will feel every part of my body while it changes, the clothes rubbing over me, while I slowly outgrow them..."
The blue dragon chuckled as his friend grinned at him, only to notice something peculiar. Just a few seconds before the gem inside the pendant was a clear crystal blue. But now it had already shifted into a golden or amber like colour.
"Alex, the pendant...it has started."
He reached down for it, to have a look at it. As he saw that the gem has changed color, his face could barely contain his smile of happiness.
Only then, did he notice a tingly feeling in his fingertips.
A surprised rumble escaped Matt's muzzle as he noticed it as well. Alex had begun to grow his claws, his nails reforming, while gold, ember and dark-brown colored scales started to appear on his hands, slowly moving upwards towards his hands.
"I am a dragon, a real dragon, a giant flying, fire-breathing dragon!"
"Yes, you are, Alex." Matt stepped back a bit, giving his friend some room for his coming growth-spurt.
Alex did barely notice this as he kept staring at his hands in pure amazement. The tingly feeling had already spread to many other parts of his body, but the change had not reached these parts yet.
He flexed his new fingers, noticing that his ring and small finger were drawn closer together. He kept flexing them all the time, until he could not separate them anymore, leaving him with four fingers on each hand.
Just as he kept flexing and moving his hands, so did he somehow by instinct with his toes. Soon he noticed that his shoes seemed to shrink, leaving less and less room for his shifting feet.
"Yesss...grow...faster...bigger..." Alex said as the scales slowly crept up from behind his hoodie onto his face.
"Don't try to rush the transformation, my friend. There is only one first time. So concentrate, enjoy it. Concentrate on your entire body, feel how the magic fills you, transforms you, shifts your body slowly piece by piece, my dear."
Alex took several deep breaths to calm down a bit, only to notice that the scents in the air have already started to grow stronger, more distinctive than just a few minutes ago.
He briefly closed his eyes again, wiggling his shifting feet, rubbing against each other inside his confining shoes, grunting in pleasure and pain at the same time, as the fabric and rubber of his shoes kept hugging his swelling toes tighter and tighter. He could already hear quiet slicing sounds as his toenails reformed into sharp, pointy claws, cutting into his shoes from within. Then he noticed suddenly how his hoodie gets pushed back slowly, bit by bit. He was confused as first and reached with his changing hand tot he top of his head, rubbing over his fabric-covered head, only to feel two hard protrusions growing from his head...he had already started growing his horns.
His blue friend was simply sitting at the side of the large hall, smiling wide as the transformation slowly set root in his body."

"Alex could only watch in astonishment. He did not feel fear or panic as the large blue beast stepped up towards him, his claws clicking on the cold stone ground.
