These are just a few of the colour variations I went through before I arrived at Amaya's final look. Later it would come down to minimal details like trying to match up the "makeup" colour with the eye colour. A time consuming affair, but worth it for when you can finally set a design in stone.
My big a-ha moment in this case was when I switched around the body and feather colours on the uppermost right sketch. From there tweaking it towards Amaya's final colour scheme wasn't far.

The second one on the right later on became the first step towards Delilah's colour scheme.
