My final for my Children’s book class! This time I tried something a little different, using no words and trying a more graphic novel approach. It was challenging, but fun, and I’m happy with the results! I’m definitely going to try to do more comic-y short stories like this.
This story is personal to me, as I’ve struggled a lot with the comparing myself to others in my work, like the girl in the story. what I’ve learned though, is that its better to spend that energy on working and learning for yourself, not for competition. What matters more than anything is that you’re happy with your life and the way you live it!

You would think it's simple!!! Exactly as you said, it's a trap lol. and I have been! I've been experimenting a lot and pushing my designs further than I ever have, I'm looking forward to playing with it more. It's nice to be able to do more painterly things, and more flat, shape based things.
Trying to do comics >.> It's why I know it's not simple at all.
And in other way, I am always fascinated by artistic choices. I mean coming from a lot realistic shape to go with "simplified" textures and forms.
It feels the opposite for me, what's your motivation to do that ? It's a great thing to experiment, is there more ? I am just curious about sorry ^^

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this! I'll try to be short lol. I think there's a lot that more simple styles can accomplish better than more rendered, form based styles. one thing is if you design an image well, it's immediately readable whats going on. Things are usually very clear and if you can really master the basics of design (color, line, shape, composition, etc.) you can create some really stunning imagery (look at tadahiro uesugi, saul bass, kevin dart, etc.). Also, if you do intend to a rendered, form based stlye, you would have to start out with these basic elements anyways. It should work simplified, and rendering is just like icing on the cake. As for why I did this comic in this style and not a more painted style, my main concern was that everything was very clear and easy to read, so I focused more on the composition, shapes, etc. and less on rendering so that I could achieve that. I like to do more painted work, but then overworking becomes an issue, and I've found that allowing myself to experiment with these alternate flat styles has helped me better figure out where "finished" is for a piece. I hope that helps!
The plurality of rendering and make the most simple and clear as possible can improve the artistic style of composition.
I see that idea, but the best point is that we choose what we want to do at the end. It's always strange to see someone changing the process so deeply to find the simplicity with his complexity to tell.
Some of them don't go back once done. I mean that brutal modification is so deep that is surprising.
And, thanks a lot for your answer !
