Jolson & Jones #51 - Mike Akropoulis, Journalist & Columnist

I can't even believe that I'm actually really doing this storyline, but what do you know, I have to see this through the very end, I suppose. ;) It was never part of my original plan for the comic since the whole #Gamergate thing didn't happen until late last year, and to be honest I didn't really pay any attention to it at first. That is, until I learned of Milo Yiannopoulos some time earlier this year. For reasons that are entirely beyond me I became utterly transfixed by this fascinatingly obnoxious guy, probably because I just couldn't believe that he actually exists. I mean, he does seem like a cartoon villain brought to life! And ever since then #Gamergate pretty much has become my most favourite internet soap opera ever. The drama, the accusations, the going around in circles, the absurdities, the key figures in this mess! Literally almost everything about it plays out like an absurdist dramedy, and it's utterly addicting to watch from the sidelines.
And well yeah, I can't help but incorporating a warped version of it into this comic just to get it out of my system. ;) Nevertheless I was a bit wary about doing it, because caricatures of actual people aren't exactly my strength. But what the heck. The character's name isn't Milo but Mike, so I might actually get away with the lack of resemblance. ;)
Either way, this storyline should run for approximately 16 pages/weeks or so. May the Lord have mercy on my soul. :D
(And yeah, whoops! Where's the mandatory logo on this page? Well, it turned out to be so dense with characters and bubbles that I just couldn't find any space for it this time – the very first time! No idea if I should drop it from now on altogether. Maybe the fancy insertion of the logo has run its course, maybe it hasn't. We'll see.)

It becomes less funny when you realize several of the victims were rendered jobless and homeless for basically no reason at all.

The underlying problem with the Gamergate "thing" is that lies keep getting spread as truth. The real story, boiled down, is that a guy had a bad breakup, told a bunch of lies in his upset pain, and then an internet shit-storm of insane rage-derpers spiralled formed a self-sustaining angry mob. The guy who started it stoked the fires right up until they started burning him too, but for some reason the "just desserts" isn't all that comforting or fun.
For my own part the funniest piece of the ongoing tragedy is the documentary discord*. when 3 dudes collaborated to make a youtube documentary (full of falsehoods, of course) for the Gators. They went...somewhere and did an interview, I don't recall where. This was the first time they had met IRL, and Dude A was shocked and horrified to learn that Dude B was a white supremacist, who was shocked and horrified to learn that Dude C was a different kind of white supremacist (opposed to B's version of white supremacy) and they spent the rest of the interview awkwardly trying to distance themselves from one another.
That, and 4chan's uncharacteristic involvement. It's always weird when 4chan (of all places) is the one that actually does something right about shutting down bad people.
*Full disclosure, this story is second-hand.

(HAHA!)
→GAY CONVULTIVE←
Gehe... 'feminist fatalist'...
...I would just end up quoting everything the 'gay' conservatist saying; everything he says is so fun.
...the funny thing is that George Washington did not want any political parties specifically because he did not want this type of human fighting!

(I... suppose, hey!)
...
...you had me interested in Milo Yiannopoulos, now.
...I do not even know whether my views align with GamerGate or not! (I am for representation of genders and races in games specifically because these inclusive games expand the audience of games, making games for everyone.)
Frankly, I actually enjoy reading Internet drama... not contributing to the drama... just enjoying the absurdist tragic-comedy.

He's actually not all that different to the way I depict his mimic here. ;) If you really want to see what that guy is actually about then look him up on Youtube. There are countless videos up there with him. ^^ Or just wait a little until he fully managed to brake into the public mainstream, because as of now I'm very certain that this is were he's going to end up eventually. He's far too outragous and memorable to not fully "making it", for what it's worth.
It's kinda funny looking back on this. Back then he still was rather unknown, to the point that I wondered if there was even a point of tackling him. But then again I had to get this twerp out of my system and get on with the thing. And now, a little more than a year later, he already crashed and burned. How quickly some careers can come and go...
