I decided to try my hand at visualizing a few of the early key characters from the Discworld series of books. Basic doodles of ideas, really. Trying to capture personalities more than anything. I've as of yet only read a few but I'm fast becoming enthralled by it. Currently reading 'Guards! Guards!', and I'd love to try to render the Watch in some fashion.
I must say it's hard not to be influenced by Paul Kidby's renditions of the characters.
(edit) Please ignore the Krazy Kat stationary.

Yeah, but other that that he did a pretty decent role; not to mention the aged Kidby-like Rincewind, wich got that little extra of howsthebloodyadjective when they expell him saying something like "In the time you have been here you haven't got the handle of a single spell" and he lamely reply "b-but they have been just forty years..."
Anyway, Pratchett himself seems quite confortable with the result, and said some along the lines of "I never explicitly said he should look asian" (not's like they aren't a few clear hints about, but oh well, my though is that he likes pullig the leg of his fans...)

Guards! is an /excellent/ book. Each book in turn goes a bit further on the awesome scale.
I've actually learned a good deal from those books. Vimes is a character I can identify with, and many of the issues that arise in /any/ Discworld book can be traced back to issues found in real life.
Books with the Witches are good, too. I love Ogg and Weatherwax.

The Luggage! *hugs* I first read Colour of Magic when I was like 12 and I've always wanted a big evil walking trunk since. And I was always confused as to weather Two-flower actually had four eyes or just glasses, the original book cover says the latter, later descriptions the former.
You should do Nanny Ogg (and her amazing shapeshifting cat, he can rape people through walls you know) and Vetinari. Good old Dog-Botherer.
Well done.

Brilliant. Rincewind is similarly perfectly visualised as was the casting of Christopher Lee as Death. (Quite a charming individual, to boot - his performance in the BBC adaptation of Gormenghast was one of many delights in a genuinely outstanding production, replete with sumptuously impossible visual design, and performances filled with love for the roles)
The Discword series are some of the best books printed, each with a deep meaning, like Monsterous Regiment, it helped me re-discover the series. And I think that Vimes is one of the best characters in the discworld series, I also think your drawing of Rincewind shows him perfectly, I feel. =p
Oh absolutely fantastic =) Damn I didn't know there were so many Discworld fans, it's rare to find anyone that knows about the series muchless has read about it XD
Great renditions though, Rincewizard and Granny are two of my favorite characters. I wish there were some more books with them, though i still need to read The Last Hero.
I'd love to see your take on Susan though. I love all of the books with her in them, she's easily one of the best characters (to me) <3

It's really hard to break from the Paul Kidby designs ... and sometimes the results just don't feel right e.g. The graphic novels (http://www.amazon.com/Discworld-Gra.....514&sr=1-1)
haha. wow saw this one kinda late. im not the only one to draw rincewin :3 i like how you did him. has more life then the doodle of him i did :b http://kimatteiru.deviantart.com/ar.....enard-42676840
