well i do custom car lighting and car audio in my spare time to make some extra cash. all of the lights on my car are LEDs (at last count over 800).
the underbody kit on my car is a million color kit, a Flowlighting Inferno V1. it does like 10 different solid colors and about 40 different patterns (most of them illegal in ohio)
then i have just blue leds in my grill, under my dash, under my back seats and in my trunk. and they all hit with the bass
also i just bought a blue led dome light and some more leds for my engine bay

im looking to do something similar, i'll need alot less lights though seeing as i drive a kia rio, but i think you can answer this question, if i get neon underglow instead of led could the undercarriage wash at a car wash break the lights? and would you reccomend neon or led?
well if you get a good neon lit then no it would be fine the glass neon tube is put inside a acrylic tube. person i don't use neon one any of the cars i work on i always yous leds here are a few reasons why
1.) leds have a much longer longer bulb life then neon does leds have a life of over 100,000 hours so if you plan on keeping the car for a extended period of time then leds are what you want.
2.) leds are much more durable than neon many of the led kits out today advertise that they car be run over with a 3 ton car and not crack the tube, on the other hand i have seen neon tubes get broken by gravel the is kicked up by the Drive wheels
3.) what i consider the most import is the value a street glow single color neon kit runs about 212 dollars. a led kit from flowlighting runs about 219 dollars and this kit will do 7 different base colors, 10 different multicolor and around 40 different patterns. so for 7 bucks more you get alot more for your money. here is a video of the kit on my car on demo mode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhy8v_deMVc&feature=channel_page
4.) as a person who has installed neon kits and led kits the led kits are much more simple to install most led kits just requaire a power and a ground wire and from there it is plug and play. with neon kits you have a distribution box and transformers to deal with on top of you power and ground wire.
well i hope this helps if you need any more help just ask
