Because it's not a luau until somebody breathes fire!
I basically just wanted to do something to plug this panel coming up and hopefully gather some interest despite the late-ish Sunday night slot. I'm still piecing together the specifics on what I'll be doing, which will probably be the case up until the minute the panel starts 9_9...
That said, if folks have things they specifically want to see/hear about (and haven't already mentioned it elsewhere ^_^), leave a note and I'll add it to the list!
So, um, yeah. Tell your friends! Bring the family! Spread the word, and I'll see you there ^_^

There seems to be little demand for any art, in the end. It's quite depressing!
I don't know about you, but it makes me want to get a super snazzy ink jet printer that'll do huge paper and heavy cardstock. Although ~now~ all the rage is pigments... and I'm not sure about the cost of that.

I mean, to be honest, people can get all the furry art they could ever want right here for free. And even that's barely enough -- if an artist doesn't post anything for a week or two, they'll get a message saying, "R U DED???" ^_^
Plus, I know that a lot of people are broke, a lot of people are "closeted," and a lot of people are living in shared spaces with non-furs, so putting furry art up on their walls isn't really a priority.
That said, yeah, having a huge-format printer would be rad <3 I'd print up giant posters just for me. Or if I were only printing up single editions, I might actually be able to sell them to interested buyers as original pieces of artwork. Unfortunately, unless you do own a large-format printer, it's incredibly inconvenient to get a single huge print done professionally in any kind of cost-effective way. But again, if 6 months into selling these coffee cats posters I'm still 200 dollars in the hole, I don't think I'm about to run out and sink 3,500 on a plotter printer <3

I have considered the free thing before. It's also why I upload images that I intend for prints quite small ;) No one seems to care if I don't post here either, but then I'm not really a 'furry artist'. Most of my work goes up on DA.
I wasn't really referring to just furry art when it comes to people not collecting. It's wide spread. There aren't many people who collect.
That's a lot of money to have put into posters too O_O I'm not sure how to boost selling of that other than continuously 'shouting' about it ^__^

I guess a huge economic crisis isn't great for art sales, either <3 I guess the only real choice is to keep continuously shouting about what's up for sale -- hopefully people won't find that too obnoxious ^_^
And honestly, subject matter notwithstanding, I don't consider my art all that "furry," either.

Woo~! And yeah, I think it's safely orange enough not to be like, "HO HO HO!!!" but red and green is always kind of risky territory, haha.
I don't plan on using this image, but I think I'll be doing something similar -- I purposely constructed it as something that kind of touches on each trick in my bag, between the brushes and graphic elements, texture, adjustments, etc. I'll be pre-constructing the image I make at the panel, but I at least want it to be a surprise for folks ^_^ I'd think waiting to see what emerges would be half the fun, and I'll need all the suspense I can build to keep people awake and attendant at that hour <3

It's called CanCan de Bois.
And you're totally right on the kerning. I didn't manually adjust it at all here, and it's a bit gappy. The leading could be tweaked a bit, too. With each line being a different point size, Photoshop doesn't tend to want to space things consistently ^_^
Not sure this thing'll see print, but good catch either way.
And on a totally unrelated note, I'm super stoked to see somebody's doing a Typography panel. It's something I'd considered doing myself -- it's definitely a subject where a little bit of formal education can make a huge difference, and looking some of the furry publications I've seen, I think a lot of people could get a lot of good use out of a panel covering the basics.

Totally. Like I say, you can learn enough to do a fully reasonable job in like...an hour. Use grids. Compose text thoughtfully. Watch out for rivers and gross rag. Hang punctuation. Optically kern/lead where necessary.
...and done ^_^ Hehe, there's a ton more there for people who want to explore, but if everybody got a handle on those basics, they'd be set.

Trés cool
Circle/Line decorative elements are kickin, especially when you put the extra effort to make it change in color so it doesn't look thrown in. Glow behind the block of text is a neat detail, too. ...there's a glow there, right? I hope I don't end up eating my wordsWHATEVER, GOOD WORX (-'v`)b

Thanks <3
And there's not a glow on the text, per se, but I fiddled with it in a number of weird ways that created a kind of glow effect. I'm actually trying to upload a flash file that's just me going through my layers on this one (in the spirit of digital painting tutorial ^_^). It'll hopefully be up in a minute here, but I've never uploaded flash to FA, so it's anyone's guess whether it'll work or not, haha <3

Woo~! I think there was maybe like a girl at the panel thing I spoke on last year. Hopefully this time around you guys can REPRESENT.
And yeah, colors are weird that way -- sometimes you'll find some that play really nicely together. Other times, you hit CTRL+Z a lot, haha...

Woo! I went with complementary colors to set different elements apart on this one. The figure has blue/purple tones against the orange/yellow of the flame, but then the cast light means both the figure and the flame have red on them, which sets it off from the green of the background.
Hehe, that was the plan, anyway <3

with fur all over your FACE, you better be careful when breathing said fire!
this is gorgeous, and the WIP image(s) you submitted were so fun to look at; i love to see how artists do things, and this is no exception.
if prints are ever available of this image, i'd love one! it's just so lively and eye-catching.

Haha, seriously! You could do a lot worse than just singe your eyebrows @_@
I'm totally with you on enjoying windows into other artists' process ^_^ In-progress shots and progressions and technique discussions are always super fun.
And thanks! If they do get made into prints at some point, I'll definitely mention it here!

i only wish more artists did them! do you plan to post more? because i'd be all over them, as i'm sure tons of other people would be, too. i always feel inspired to try new techniques after watching a video or seeing a WIP image, kind of like you realize: "ohh, so that's how they do it!"
and thank you, i'd love to have a little print of this on my wall, i think it'd liven up my desk area. keep up the outstanding work!

Yeah, I think everybody should do these! It's always interesting to see how others work, and just thinking about it makes me more process-conscious on the whole, I think, which helps make me more efficient and thoughtful when I'm painting.
And I'm sure I'll post more stuff like this, yeah ^_^

It's a shame you won't be there! I think a lot of people are probably going to be gone by the time it rolls around >_<
Unfortunately, it was this slot, or an hour and a half right around dinnertime on Friday night, at the same time as the big art event, which I'm sure would have been just as much of a pain for folks...
In any case, thanks!
