Is it just me, or is it true that men usually think women who dress simple look best? Women, on the other hand, seem to think they are more beautiful if they paint themselves all over, hang shiny baubles on every available hook, tie their hair in impossible knots, dress in as many yards of expensively embroidered or printed fabric as they can, and show as little of their real selves as possible.

Never married a woman who painted herself, always wanted to know exactly what I was getting. Unadorned is beautiful, baubles are crass. A simply dressed woman will attract the kind of man she wants, a woman primed and painted with holiday ornaments all over her will attract the vapid, thin walled kind of man. I'll take Mary Jane over the Movie Star any day.
Toe nails are the baubles I never understood! Why paint them? They are rather lame at the best, and painting them nauseous green or neon pink won't make them look any better. Best not to draw attention to them at all. But, then you see women walking by with sandals and toenails that look like a poster by Peter Max. My best guess is that it has little to do with how they look. Many women just like to groom themselves, period.
Meanwhile, I admit to being stupid, insensitive, mindless, thoughtless, ignorant, witless, oafish, boorish, asinine, coarse, gross, graceless, tasteless, tactless, clumsy, heavy-handed, and blundering. I also haven't taken a bath since 1971 when I entered the Air Force (Draft Number 004, I'm a draft dodger I guess.)
Showers are so much easier and the tub in this house, which is on the second floor, will probably go through the floor if anyone filled if, this house was built in 1959 by 'non-English Speaking part time laborious.' We are still finding problems, place almost burned to the ground back in 1965 because the wiring was wrong and grounded to the plumbing. SHOCKING!

Where did I leave my lace collar and silk breech stockings?
These days, though, men tend to dress up to either look athleltic or like bankers. There are 101 subtle clues that tell those-in-the-know exactly how expensive your tailor is. Unfortunately, just as wigs and cosmetics failed Dolly Parton, a tux and tie fail Donald Trump.

My dad saw part of that "subtle clue" reaction when he was doing school certifications. He and another team member (both male) would sit down with a school administrator and invariably, no matter which of the two was introduced or acted as being in charge, the person they were talking with would defer to the one in the darker suit.
