So as a Vault Dweller, I was very curious about the outside Wasteland. I had to find out what it was like! The time finally came where the Overseer instructed the vault to pick someone to go outside and survey the immediate area. I happily volunteered. When I stepped out, I was in some kind of cave. Just a few steps and suddenly there was a rumble, the ground suddenly giving way sending me down into a pool of water. It wasn't until I reached the shore that I heard the vault suit starting to rip and tear. My cries turn to growls as something was clearly not right...

Vault 40 wasn't much of an experiment for Vault-Tec. They were more testing the effects of social anxiety and ingenuity. Inside the vault, everything ran normal except there were no radiation protection gear. No suits or goggles or gasmasks at all. Outside the vault, under the very entrance was a pool they filled with radioactive waste. Over the pool they put a faux walkway, one that would break free when the first dweller to exit would walk on it. The... after effects were rather unseen however.
