It's my characters Mikota, Christina, and Nikolai leading a major mechanized offensive through some tundra and mountains, on a mission for some good ol' territorial expansion. There's a bunch of Ka-52 Alligators, Mk3 Merkava tanks, and a few jets overhead providing air cover.
A piece worthy of my 100th submission. This took quite a while to draw and a lot of things got in the way. I'm glad to finally have this piece finished, though I may consider coloring it in some time later.
I've decided base my army off of one of a more mild to lower budget, using more eastern vehicles and weaponry than most would. Though this is made up for with more intuitive and disciplinary training, as well as an increased spending on the individual soldier's basic needs.
The Generals and higher officers in the military normally wear a uniform containing a mildly thick black overcoat adorned with the appropriate medals and insignas, along with a black cape, which not only adds a powerful aesthetic touch, but is very helpful with our nations colder climate. The grounds troops wear more normal modern combat gear including a winter jacket, cargo pants, and kevlar body armor, with the amount of armor changing depending on the mission, whether it be a simple skirmish or raid, to a full on 24/7 battle. The combat gear also includes a kevlar helmet fitted to carry goggles to protect the eyes from snow or sand, (and not NVGs because anthros can already see in the dark better than that), and a lower face balaclava to protect the user's face from exposure to the environment, or their identity. The camouflage of the ground soldier's uniforms will also be refitted to fit the environment, though the high ranking officers (generally major and up) will use their normal attire unless they choose to wear the normal combat gear.
For general troop transport, we are currently in the process of developing a SUV like vehicle for normal transport, though APCs such as the M2 Bradley and even BMPs are used in direct combat situations. For main battle tanks, we've purchased a large number of Merkava Mk3's, since they're being outdated by the Mk4 variant and are going at a lower price, but also because of their ability to better protect a crew in case of a direct impact, since we need to minimize casualties for our small army. For air vehicles, we have in stock a number of old UH-1 Hueys for troop transport to drop soldiers in and out of hot zones, as well as a number of Mi-24 Hinds for their ability to also be assault helicopters. For primary attack choppers we primarily use Ka-50s and Ka-52s for their durability and low price. As for jets, we have in store a fair number of Mig-19s as well as a much smaller number of F-15s for emergency air interception and important aerial missions, though have a low number for their ridiculous price.
Our soldiers our equipped with a state of the art newly designed assault rifle designed by our Beloved Leader himself, which you can see here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18313775/ . Its design has proven useful as a good balance between the need for CQB and long range engagements, with lots of customization options to be fitted for special missions. It generally comes in a 6.8x43 millimeter armor piercing round for the normal soldiers, though for DMRs is fitted to the more globally recognized 7.62x51 round. It is usually fitted with a folding stock including an internal recoil spring, but can also be fitted with a variety of M4 stocks or fixed stocks, and also comes with flip up sights standard. Snipers and Marksmen also use a modified version of the standard assault rifle. For support troops, they are armed with the mass produced M249 SAW because of its widespread availability. The army's issued sidearm is another national exclusive .45 caliber pistol with a 15 round magazine and threaded barrel.
The standard ground troops are not only forced to meet the standard endurance and fitness levels of most armies, but also have a strength standard as well, since urban combat and most CQB can end up being hand to hand very quickly. Women are required to meet a higher strength and mental level than men for front line service, to compensate for the normal lower muscle mass females tend to have, which in turn prevents the worst of the possible situations from occurring that would happen with a weaker individual. Generally carnivores and clawed omnivores make up most of the ground troops for their natural ferocity while their less aggressive counterparts take the less directly violent roles. However, pack animals also make for great ground troops, with the mindset that is more accustomed to follow orders, however species that are normally function as individuals can work better alone, or require more training in teamwork.
