"What *is* this stuff, anyway?"
Oriel sighed as he unscrewed the cap to the weird-looking stuff. The merchant must have
accidentally stuffed it in Oriel's satchel earlier this week. It smelled... yeasty at any
rate.
It might do. He'd been working on potions all day and needed a rising agent. Yeast was the
closest he had on hand. The lizard only needed a little bit, anyway.
The liquid in the mixing bowl didn't react at first. Oriel sighed again and dreaded making
the trek back to town.
He was deep in thought as the mixing bowl began to vibrate. The resonance accelerated until
it shattered, spreading thick green smoke everywhere. It condensed on his scales as it
evaporated into thin air. Aside from the glass shards, it was as if it never existed.
"Well, *that* was something," he remarked. "But I've made a mess."
Oriel strolled into the kitchen, hoping to find a piece of bread to pick up the glass. He
was halfway across the room when he started to feel...strange.
"Aw, nuts," he groaned as he felt his scales crack and molt from the tips of his fingers
and toes. Sudden, rapid molting sometimes occured with a bad mix. Well, at least he'd have
a fresh layer when he was done.
Oddly, instead of more scales, it was fur.
Big, thick, fur. Coarse and tawny. He had to see what that weird substance was.
Quickly, Oriel ran back to his workbench. "Veg-hi-mee-tey," he stumbled over the weird
word on the label. Still no clue. The fur advanced rapidly up his arm and was now sprouting
in various places on his body.
His legs felt warm, and not just because of the new fur. They were becoming more muscular
and more powerful. He took a test jump and nearly hit the ceiling. Quickly, he ran to a
mirror. His face was now distorted. His sinuses ached as the structure of his skull pulled
and flexed.
Ears.
Ears had started to grow. They unspooled out of his skull as warped appendages. Sounds
suddenly grew loud. He cupped his new ears only to see that his paws were now just that...
paws.
Oriel stared in fascination as he became a kangaroo. That much was now becoming obvious. He
was now completely covered in fur, head to tail. What a strange creature he had become.
And now he had a strange desire to eat the rest of the Vegemite.
