This is the first dryfelted sculpture I've made, and I chose to make it for
dirtiran as a gift.
Dryfelting is done by taking fibres of dyed wool called 'roving' and repeatedly stabbing it with a specially-made needle to mesh the fibres together. It is a long process (and sometimes painful, given the special needles are very sharp and barbed) and can be frustrating as unlike with moulded sculptures it isn't a simple task to subtract from the form.
None of these details are painted or marked in -- it is all done by careful placement of fibres and with the tip of the needle.
Despite repeated stabs to the finger, and that this was my first-ever attempt at the art, I found it fun. Once I work out a pricing arrangement, I will be adding these to my commissions and opening up for one or two pending interest.
