Done for Equinexchange on LJ, Horsecrazy’s character Shadowflame.
I was really excited to get a hippocampus character to draw and it was fun playing with the lighting underwater. The character was supposed to have flame colored markings on her legs and mane, but colors are muted underwater, least that was my theory anyways whilst coloring this!
Also the character is supposed to have a flame emblem on the chain about her neck, I liked the idea that she had a real flame, protected from her underwater habitat in a magical amulet. Close up of that here:

Wow...
Know what's just beautiful? The sense of buoyancy here, she just feels like she's hanging in the water, suspended. The muted colors are gorgeous, I love the idea of the pendant, with the flame inside burning under the ocean.
*laughs* Hippocampus are some of my favorite characters; when I was a little kid, I always wanted to ride the one on the carousel and would wait for an hour until I was able to nab him. I know, silly, but this was one of those 'oh hahah, flashed back to childhood' drawings. I love it. :)
