Decided that Dimitri needed a partner in crime, a bodyguard, and a fresh supply of blood at hand when needed. Andrea here fills in those three and then some. She's a Black Cat Spirit, cursed with black tattoo-like markings on her arms, which enables her to call demons as extensions of herself from the deepest darkest pits of the Underworld.

With providing her services, in turn Dimitri also gives back in return. Andrea suffers from a genetic condition call Polycythemia Vera, a chronic blood disorder - producing too many blood cells, making her blood thick and slow. This slows her response time, causes exhaustion and sleepiness, and over-sleeping (she usually sleeps 2-4 hours a day, but under this condition she can sleep for more then 10+ hours). To help treat the symptoms, her blood has to be drained to a certain percentage every few days - that's where Dimitri comes in. Since he's a vampire and needs blood daily to survive, he drains her blood to help her.

In a side note, she was friends with him before he became a vampire, a couple of centuries ago. She was his pet cat when he lived a poor sad life, living near a stream to fish for his and her food. In turn, she would keep the rats and pests away from his home and food supply. When he was bitten by a vampire bat on his 24th birthday, his human perception of the world changed. He could see spirits, demons, and other entities now shown in his new immortal eyes. Which in turn, discovered that his cat was a cursed spirit. Andrea then decided to protect and teach him about the ways of the spiritual world, so long as he would provide her with fish...good deal no? :P

During this time, he studied intensely on the spirit world as well as science and became a doctor for both, helping humans and spirits alike and providing for his cat. In turn, she practice fighting techniques and provided additional income from street fighting, earning income from both the human and spiritual residents.

Later on they both discovered that he needed blood to function and she needed blood drainage because of her condition.

With both their needs met, they stayed together and started a medical practice, staying partners in business for about 150-200+ years. Both keeping tabs on their current identities, saying they were the descendants of the founders of the practice.
