Just a quick painting for a new friend.
I started playing ESO not too long ago, and recently started getting involved in the rp scene. I've met some wonderful people, but none quite as thoroughly supportive as Tiban-Ra here, played by

Thanks for showing me the ropes!
(I'll move this into scraps eventually and work on a more polished version, methinks)

Eh, you wouldn't have to worry too much about him.
A roleplaying argonian who worships dirt.
Their roleplay borders on trolling, but in such a way that it's annoying, but not unacceptable.
Steals items in plain sight, only to try to sell them to the owner for their beard hair to eat.

My god, it's full of s--er, art!
It looks fantastic, Gray! I think, you can tell that it's been done quicker than some of your other pieces by things like the blur in the fabric on his waist, but it still looks amazing. Your anatomy is fantastic. (And so is the picture's, oh ho)
Argonians forever!
By the way, what's that in the background I figure it's not his shadow, unless something really strange is going on... Which is admittedly a possibility around you!

Heck yeah this is far from refined, I had two hours of spare time in which to get something working on canvas. The anatomy is... Getting there, but I still have a long way to go before it's where I want it to be, style-wise. I want to push some more shapes, exaggerate curves until I find it nice to look at.
Ah, that shadow's a giant mushroom. They're everywhere!

I'd really have liked Horizons had it developed better. (a dragon race, and 2 other scalies, one of them gender-less.) EQ was one of the first with PCs who were scaly, and it took quite some time for them to add a 2nd species, the Sarnak, which is an Iksar/Dragon hybrid. (Iksars are so close to dragons, genetically they can cross-breed. This means they're closer to dragons in DNA than even humans are to chimps and great apes.)
It's nice we have Argonians as a more popular scaly MMO race. I'm crestfallen that WoW's expansion STILL won't have scalies. Their "Guardians of Time" are a very attractive anthro-dragon, and their Sauroks are a good reptile-anthro form too.
STO has Gorns, which are are quite a bit like Argonians in looks, and the defunct Star Wars Galaxies had the Trandoshans.

I had actually heard that WoW might have been adding a Lizard-like folk at some point (I lament I've only played ESO, I don't have an awful lot of time for MMOs these days), if that were to happen I fear I might be drawn in and lost to the world again. I adore WoW's art style and their Dragon designs are gorgeous but none of the playable races really appeal to me, and having an appealing protagonist is kindof essential (call me picky).
I played STO for a time as a Gorn, with an all-Gorn crew, but as much as I enjoyed having the equivalent of a space-faring lizard-man leather-clad boy-band, the game-play got a little stale.
I don't know much about EQ, I must admit! Iksars are growing on me, however

EQ inspired Blizzard devs to create a better MMO. They achieved that with a lot of then-new technical advances, the primary one being the use of a scripting language (LUA) that allowed things like direction finders, automatic quest guidance, and big databases (location of resources, trends in the auction house, eg) to be created. Yet staying clear of enabling automation to "bot" a character. You still had to manually click on things, move your character, activate interactions with the environment, and so on.
WoW's colorful graphics is wonderful to some and annoying to others. I am rather tired of the photo-realistic attempts in ESO and even EQ2 as it just doesn't cross the "uncanny valley" but gets down into it so that things are uncomfortably (un)real. The upgrades of models in WoW has still stayed on the safe, still somewhat toony, side of this valley.
There is a time when venturing into a certain place on Isle of Thunder turns you into a Saurok. I like that, especially the LONG jumps they can make - much more air/distance than any other race. Of course, they don't add armor/weapon details, so all PC played Sauroks look pretty much identical. They even transform a Hunter pet into some lump of slime, hehe!
STO was just so much same-old, same-old for me... making me regret having a lifetime sub. (Worse still, their full repertoire of stuff is still closed to lifetime subscribers, meaning you must still pony up cash for various select in-game items and currencies.)
EverQuest 2 is what my character is based upon, and iirc, the basic game is F2P. You can create and play an Iksar, and may want to use the EQMaps project to add in-game mapping (something quite restrictive and lacking in the base game). It lacks a scripting language (at least last I saw), but there are sites like EQInterface.com that do offer various ways to "skin" the UI. I recommend starting a character at Gorowyn (the Sarnak village) be they Iksar or Sarnak. The quests, rewards, etc., are nicer and in some respects easier than starting in say Freeport or Neriak.
The role-playing servers in EQ2 have RP guilds (as do the PvP and PvE servers), and at least one of the Iksar-centric RP guilds I belonged to were pretty thorough in their staying in character and also espousing the various bits of EQ lore which are hard to learn offhand. (I think I at least used to have a document delineating all of EQ lore chronologically, but forget if it's still up.)

One of the reasons I still try and play older, more clunky games is to see where the inspiration for newer games of the same ilk came from. I enjoy diversity in style, I think if every MMO looked like WoW the industry would be missing a chance to branch out, artistically. I like seeing the attempts at photo-realism, or ESO's attempt to replicate the style of Skyrim and earlier ES titles. I think, however, with the development of Virtual Reality such as the Oculus Rift and Vive, we'll be seeing more attempts at achieving a level of photo-realism for the sake of immersion. It'd be a while before VR becomes so commonplace as to have its own MMO titles but I can't wait to see where the tech takes us.
That's clever, I love it when a game gives you a taste of some higher or exotic power, such as towards the end of ESO's main story (I'll skirt around spoilers just in case). STO had so much potential! I wanted to maintain a ship with some friends, have everyone perform a specific role aboard a nice, cozy space-ship but what STO has become seems to be a replica of Champions Online with a Star Trek reskin. I dislike the trend in MMOs to make environment interiors so large. I understand it's to accommodate player numbers but a lot of the homely feeling of a space-ship interior is lost when the corridors feel like cathedrals. The game-play, too, was adhering to a weary pattern of space-bit, planet-bit then space-bit again. The constant attempts to make you shell out more cash eventually put me off entirely, but I'm looking forward to Star Citizen which is shaping up to be far better than any space-game that has come before. Shame they don't have lizard-folk, really, wouldn't that be the cherry on the cake?
Any game that is willing to let me step into the scales of a reptile-based protagonist is worth investigating, I'll put some time aside to give EQ a go though it sounds like it needs a little additional TLC to bring it up to speed (not that I mind that, Skyrim needed a heck of a lot of modding too and that's fairly recent in the grand scheme of things). Thanks for the heads-up!
These RP guilds, are they welcoming of newcomers? My problem with RP in ESO is I keep seeing a lot of well-established RPers complain about people who are new to the antics, it borders on Elitism and at times it can be quite off-putting if you're anxious about getting started. I'd also be asking a lot about lore, so I'd need a little patience

EQ2 at least does let you play to 90th, and has no time limit on this trial/f2p period. They nag you to upgrade though, and open your browser to their page when you exit their game (yet another form of nagging). But considering this is all the advertising (as opposed to so many cell phone apps that advertise any and everything when free), that's tolerable and understandable.
RP guilds try to be accommodating, even to new players. [here] I captured the EQ1 lore, which differs just slightly in EQ2. EQ2 had a cataclysm (before WoW) where their moon Luclin blew apart, raining down meteorites on the land and causing earthquakes, tidal waves... basically re-drew the lay of the land. And the races started differing, diversifying, and what once was a good city (Freeport) became a haven of a tyrant Overlord (voiced by Christopher Lee, the same actor who played Saruman).
nVidia has supported 3D for some time now, but it requires that the app use their API. You can't just set up a 3D monitor with one of their high-end cards and expect WoW to show you perspective. (It won't; they are one of many who don't support the nVidia 3D scheme.) And yes, not every LCD monitor can render 3D. Some need shutter glasses (powered), and I guess some (at least my big HDTV) can work with the polarized 3D lenses you can get at a 3D movie these days (just don't recycle them xP).
I believe the Antonia Bayle server is where Unktehila (the modestly leveled) lives, and is in an RP guild with quite the impressively-furnished Guildhall. I recommend scaly characters (who must be evil, so read your class selections carefully and try and figure ahead of time whether evil would play that role). Unktehila is a Beastlord, part of the group of scout classes. (You have 4 primary class distinctions - priest, scout, warrior, and mage). Selecting one of the 4 gives you additional choices of what specialization you want. Therefore, there's an evil priest and a good priest, and some neutral so it can be played by any of the races. There are neutral races which some are exotic (Kerrans, for example, cat people). Most of the good races are Tolkienesque - dwarves, humans, halflings, etc. Some of the Tolkien baddies are in the evil races, too - Ogres, Trolls, e.g. Ratonga (rat people) are in the evil class I think, possibly neutral.
Character customization will remind you of ESO, maybe just a skosh less tweaky.
