Saikan peered over the edge of the rooftop onto the street far below, and the building at the other side. His target was inside. It would be a simple matter to jump onto it.
He stared at the stone gargoyle. If he held onto it, he could get enough leverage for the jump. He was mildly curious that it and its other silent companion seemed free of pigeon droppings. Holding onto a horn, Saikan jumped and immediately held onto the wall with his legs. His legs muscles tensed for the jump he was about to make.
A strange smell reached his nostrils just as the building began to shake. But the rumble of the earthquake was nowhere to be heard. Only a strange growling, growing louder.
Shocked, he turned to face the gargoyle...
Just a quick story to go with the drawing. And please excuse me for saying it, but... Holy shit! Who the heck drew and colored this thing?!?! :O Because I'm surprised I actually did something like this. There's still a few things I wish I had done better, like the gun (which I shortened to expose that nice arm and armpit of our scaly hero). Overall, though, I'm extremely pleased how it turned out.
I cheated with the displays on his gun, visor and gauntlet, but love that I managed to mold them into the image.
It needs some tweaking in shading and stuff, but this is basically about done. It also lost lots of detail from scaling down and the JPG compression.
Final version to be found at FC, without the dumb logos and stuff. And a couple other changes I plan for this.

The armor design on his snout and neck is sweet, I'm digging the visor very much. Also, the visor is seriously cool-looking, like high-tech cool.

I love the energy of this one, it's fun to stare at it and imagine all the little things going on. Sometimes, when I pause a movie, I get a really amazing look at the detail going on that I would miss if just watching in real time. This pic does that too, it is as if nuance is being thrown around in too great an amount, but stopping the action for a moment allows me to take it all in. That is powerful.
looking good, man!
i'd suggest adding a little noise to the grey parts of the gargoyles, to make it more stone-like (in a separate, multiply layer). then maybe put a small amount of gaussian blur on the noise.
that will also distinguish the left gargoyle a bit more from the metal on the ninja, which is now almost the same shade.
also, the the top part of the wall, the bit the gargoyles are gripping, it could be just a touch darker than the lower part of the wall.
yes?
