Sold the Catalina and got myself a Fiero
1988 Pontiac Fiero
-5 speed manual (Izuzu)
-2.5 Iron Duke 4 banger (98hp...when it was new)
-Got it in maticulusely maintained, Stock, immaculate condition. (Until my brother backed into it)
For those of you who don't know, at the time I bought that Catalina, I was actually in the market for a daily driver that had to meet several criterias...I never had intention to pic up a second classic car, because I already have my '67 Toronado. I did my duty by rescuing the Catalina from the junkyard and that's a bit of a story; but I had no intention of keeping it. For me it was an investment opportunity and even though I miss her and we had some memories together, there was no way I wanted three project cars. Two is enough for me. Which is why I wanted a unique, reliable, manual, sporty, nearly un-modifiable daily driver.
Sadly, it only met 4 out of those 5 criteria's...I passed up a lot of other cars to buy because I knew I would end up modding them, and that's all money I could put into my Toronado or Wagon projects. That's why I specifically got the 4 banger over the v6. It turns out, that little duke has a massive after market, and Pontiac even used it as a racing motor back in the day. For a few grand, you could build a 320whp N/A iron duke. For me, that is extremely tempting because that sort of potential is right up my alley.
But I have to be strict with myself, after all, if I wanted three project cars, I would've kept that gorgeous catalina. Which by the way, recently had 5k worth of work done to it all over and was I'm solid mechanical condition. Just needed paint and shocks. Truthfully, I just drove it around as is.
