The writing under the sculptures say “Scene in Auerbach's Cellar from Goethe's 'Faust' Mephistopheles enchants the students”. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832), a friend of Schiller, had used the second oldest restaurant in Leipzig as a location in his play.
