"...where is everyone?!" complained the fox
"They...they didn't make it, circuit. One of those things jumped on the other car, it broke through the windshield and, well you know." Setta didn't even look to the fox as she spoke, her eyes were focused on the space between the planks she just finished nailing over the window.
"No sign of them...its like they were never here..." Setta the reptile's voice was little more then a whisper, hushed as if afraid the creatures would hear her.
"Yea sure it was all just a dream...dreams bleed all over the place." Kurtsa snapped at her, he wasn't a bad cheetah but after this day anyone would be a little edgy.
"This can't be happening...this can't be real...things like that don't really exist!" Eve had been whispering that for the past hour while curled up in a corner of the small pharmacy the group had taken refuge in. Constantly crying and saying that over and over it was starting to get to everyone.
Twenty four hours ago everything was fine, then the outbreak went wide spread. Ten people had grouped together planning to head to the nearest military base for protection just like the raidio and news instructed them to do. Before they made it to the base they watched as an ocean of bodies, bleeding and screaming as others scurried about attacking what ever they could reach. One look told them all what they were dealing with: zombies. The group of ten turned around and hurried back to town. One car would go and get supplies from the wal-mart while the others collected personal items and what ever weapons they could then they would all head to the docks and head out to open water...zombies couldn't swim right? Then all heck broke loose, one car was missing with the four furs that occupied it while the other six were ran off the road. They took refuge in the nearest defendable buiding...a walgreens.
"This is judgment...we're all supposed to die here...."
"Eve! That's enough! We're not going to die! We are going to sit here and radio for help! We'll be fine!" Midnight tried to sound confident as she duct taped another piece of plastic in place for her body armor.
"Come on Eve, give us a smile...it'll be alright.." Circuit said nerviously as he tried not to let his eyes linger on the blood stained bandage on Eve's arm.
One shot gun, two 9mm pistols with a few clips, a hammer, crowbar, two knives , one possible infection (Eve) and a moderate noninfection wound (Kurtsa)

if its broken then id probably demand to be left behind if the group had to make a brake for it, hold em off for as long as i can before shooting myself in the head....no since in me holding down the group if i cant even move or defend myself properly, that would be silly sauce and a sure fire death sentence for the party
Hee... No dragons in this zombie movie? There goes my firebreath and wings, then. Probably not many mad scientist types about either, just boring old regular physicists (so the day job is safe... but then what would I do for a hobby?). Hmmm. A Walgreen's, though, that has some MacGuyvering potential. There should be plastic garbage bags that could be taped up to seal up the windows and doors, bringing the airflow way down, and there ought to at least right now be quite a bit of non-us blood around so we don't instantly attract the zombies. There has to be some airflow or we suffocate, but a Walgreens should also have bleach and detergents, right? So use the cash trays from the registers, fill those with bleach, and put the trays underneath the outgoing air vents on the roof. That might help kill the scent and let us stay holed up, using the supplies inside (even on candy and junk food, you can survive a long time - I know a lot of folks made it through college that way). And if not... well, some cigarette lighters, aerosol cans, and string (and a bunch of ingenuity) and you might be able to rig up some mini-bombs or something. Also, if the zombies are mindless and raving but not super-strong, then breaking down the shelves to reinforce the doors and windows should be fairly effective.
It all depends on how long it takes the zombies to start dying off from exposure, dehydration, and starvation. If they start infighting and attacking each other as available-if-less-desirable meals, then it might just take a few days. If they're Magic Zombies and can go a long time without normal human sustenance, then we're utterly wrecked anyhow. But if they're viral zombies who recognize each other as not-food and are able to minimally tend to their remaining biological needs (air, water, food, but maybe not shelter) then it would probably be a couple of weeks for most of them to starve to death... and I think in a generic Walgreens, we're probably only going to be able to hold out for several days at best if zombies came at us at a slow but steady stream, as it'd be hard to keep them from breaking through makeshift barriers without getting scratched on the way... and probably get overrun fairly quickly if they were able to get coordinated enough to attack as a mob.

These are the aggressive running type of zombies. They can swim (not very quickly) and show some intelligence (they can go up or down stairs or use very basic blunt weapons) since the attack is new no one knows if they will 'starve to death' or not but they don't seem to fight among themselves.
Well, I suppose we'd have to try to hide with the bleach and bags, make any sort of makeshift weapons and defenses possible with the contents of the drugstore, and hope that exposure and time will do in most of the local zombies, maybe enough that making the shelving into barriers on the doors and windows would suffice. If it's an urban or suburban area, there might not be enough free-flowing water (as opposed to the stuff available through turning on the taps) to support many of them at all, if they can't turn on taps. And since the only way it looks like survival might happen is to outlast a siege in the Walgreens... well, if the only way you might survive is for X to be true, then you might as well assume X is true and proceed with preparations from there. If the zombies survive for long, we'll get overrun anyhow by sheer numbers, so we might as well assume that most of them won't survive losing access to the support that makes it possible for large numbers of non-zombie humans to survive in areas like cities that could not sustain so many people without outside resources.
And if Eve is a possible infection, it would probably be smart to at least use that duct tape to make some restraints. Not entirely restrained, in case zombies made it in and she turned out to *not* be infected yet and able to help fend them off... but restrained enough that if she *did* succumb, she couldn't get free. Handcuffs would be perfect - put the key in front of her so if she stays sensible she can get free easily, but not if her mind goes. Barring that, duct tape cuffs and hobbles and put a pair of scissors within reach, where she could cut herself free if she had to and had the presence of mind to use them, I guess, unless anyone else had a better idea... and if we got the external barricades up with time to worry about Eve. Busy, busy, busy...

If we survived the Zombie War...if humanity survived. I wonder what future generations will say about us. Our Grandparents suffered through the Great Deppresion and World War 2. Then came home to build the greatest middle class in human history. Lord knows they wern't perfect. But they sure came close to the American dream.
Then our parents generation came along and FUCKED IT ALL UP. The Baby boomers. The ME generation. And then you got us.
Yea we stopped the zombie menace. But they would look back and say we were the ones who let it happen in the first place. But what if we could win. And clean up our own mess? Maybe thats the best epitaph to hope for. "Generation Z, They cleaned up thier own mess"
