I'm actually mostly of the opinion that art is just that, an art, and goign to college is the last thing that you should do with it :3
I know people who are banking their ENTIRE FUTURES on that (apparently) fuckawesome college down in georgia, and the fact that JUST MAYBE disney will hire them fresh out of college.
it just seems a little bit stupid, if you ask me.
that and-
i''ve actually had somebody who got an art degree walk up to me during a hockey game (i was drawing at the time) and tell me- if i'm going to pursue art in college, for the LOVE OF GOD, at least Minor in business.
it's sort of like getting a degree in history and then becoming an accountant.
it just doesn't make sense :3

You only get out what you put into it. The schools themselves suck, and the raw assignments mean nothing. It's about the environment of working around like-minded people that harbors a dialogue and critique outside of class. That, and the superficial piece of paper that everyone but the art field accepts as a valid pass into the working world.
I don'T really get the sense in that
If someone is really good in drawing and loves drawing more than anything else, isn't it just great that this person can go to an art school, improve there and get a job that satisfies him/her completely and in which he/she's really good and succesfull?
What makes an biology/law student better than an art student?
Disney isn't the only place in the world to work on if you're talented, and what's wrong about planing a future based on art, making money with it, doing what you're best at?
There's a lot to learn about art, so why not makign an entire school dedicated to that subject?

Art school is actually quite valuable in establishing connections, networking, contracts, the like.
It's no different from any other "normal, useful college education" in that it provides internships and lessons in how to work with print, as well as many programs that would otherwise not be available to someone who is not part of a certain industry.
Commercial art is a business too.

I saw this being used in reverse by an absurdedly popular dA artist that I won't name (with regards to her not taking any sort of professional illustration work) and oooh boy that was messed up to look at
replying to technicolorpie entries with shit I've seen that may or not be related to the comics she makes, that's how I roll

I fucking love your style in these comics you do. They're simple, and brutally effective in their emotion, not worrying about silly things like anatomy and detail. Though i do of course appreciate the artistry required to pull off good realistic art, i have a high preference for stuff like this right here that see no need to worry with such things and just go "bright solid colours, good lines, simple shapes, and assloads of emotion. THAT's the shit."
Seriously, I love how you do faces. You have that undeniable knowledge of how the simplest of shapes can convey such emotion. You take two slightly different sized circles, draw diagonal lines through them near their tops, and make her look crazy-angry. you then later cut out most of the circles and turn them into upward crescents of joy, marked skillfully by small partial crows feet of withered age. And the squiggle line for the "verge of tears, dammit i told myself I wouldn't cry" type mouth is perfect.
No I'm not wanking you. I never embellish the truth, I just have a habit of being wordy about it. Why, after watching you for as long as i have been and seeing all these awesome comics, I only decided to go "art critic compliment tsunami attack" on you now is beyond me. likely because it's only now sort of coming on topic, and all of your other comics have themselves had other completely different points.
Regardless, my point still stands. You have fucking skill. And I'm fav'ing this simply because of that. Have a nice day.

Well, you don't realize how hard it is to convey emotion with so few brush/penstrokes. I'd like to think I have similar skill as far as emoting via eyes and mouths go, but as soon as I try and add the rest of the head, it turns into some kind of wonky Picasso thing, so I'm speaking from experience in that area. You make it look easy, especially the shape of her head. I can't for the life of me get a good muzzle on something without it looking like a tab on a pop-up book... but then again, artistry is not my strong point. I just calls 'em like I sees 'em, and I sees talent in you... s... >.>
... as a side note, I'm also wondering how this stuff would look animated and with voice. o.o

It's surprisingly quick and friendly to learn, as far as these drawing programs go.
It doesn't go overboard with hundreds of thousands of options, and to start animating you only need to know about two keyboard shortcuts, where the onion-skinning button is and how to move the brush tool.
The old version I have is, anyway... MX.... Haven't seen any recent versions to check if they've gone to town with pointless features.
I support the suggestion to try Flash =)

My god, just look at the masses you've assembled with but a single image, hilarious none the less, but almost awe outspokenly frightening, while i don't know if you'll even read this, something tells me this comic is more for your own sanity than for FA observational humor. in either case, i wish to congratulate you on your success whether it be intentional or not, you have it. and deserved it, i often look forward to your comics myself.
take care fellow artist. and thanks for the smiles.

Is the way in which so many of us find this amusing Schadenfreude? (largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate)
Is it symptomatic of Tall Poppy Syndrome? (a societal phenomenon in which people of genuine merit are criticized or resented because their talents or achievements elevate them above or distinguish them from their peers)
A fitting fate perhaps for those popular artists who take their fame and status for granted, only to find their time in the spotlight had passed before they knew it.

man, I know how she feels, I had that going on when I migrated from DA to here, granted I didnt have millions of watchers or anything.
but my watch list went from like 196 to 0, and it took a while to start getting back up, and this happened again when my ex wiped out my page ;o
also, the song, my grandfather on my mothers side, back in 1970 when the song was popular, put this on both sides of a cassette tape, and committed suicide. (man brought my grandmother back to life from a bad relation ship, but he couldnt find a job to keep the family with food, so he spiralled into depression, i'll never forget september 9th.
