I'm trying to make a page that looks like those old pulp covers and horror comics.

You nailed it i think... Your drawing style in general looks more like older comics so i dont think it's such a problem for you to make it look like that. Most notably the way it's supposed to be a spaceship cockpit but it resembles more the one of an old B-17 bomber than an actual futuristic spacecraft:P
Exactly, and that's what gives it that charm:) That style and the one in spacepig reminds me of a comical version of comics i used to read as a kid:
