I make this treat only once a year for Christmas.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
-1 pack of thick cut bacon (maple bacon is just as good if not better)
-1/4 cup brown sugar (the softest brown sugar you can find)
-1 tablespoon granulated sugar
-1 tablespoon cinnamon
-maple syrup (regular syrup works fine too)
-1 cookie sheet
STEP 1:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
STEP 2:
Slice the pack of bacon in half (cooks easier and doesn't curl this way) and lay the strips out onto an ungreased/uncovered cookie sheet. Make sure the strips don't touch each other.
STEP 3:
Mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon together in a small bowl. Once mixed pinch the mixture with your fingers and sprinkle across the bacon strips evenly as possible. Lightly press down on the bacon to crease the mixture into the meat.
STEP 4:
Drizzle a thin strip of syrup vertically across each strip. Use a very thin strip of syrup, drenching the bacon will be bad. Wait 5 minutes for the syrup to soak into the meat.
STEP 5:
After 5 minutes, place cookie sheet into oven for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and flip each strip after. Flipping is crucial, but an additional coating of sugar is not needed unless you want it extra sweet. Place back in the oven for another 8 minutes, 10-12 minutes if you want it extra crispy.
STEP 6:
Do not forget this step! Once the bacon has finished cooking, immediately remove it from the cookie sheet and onto a serving plate and soak the cookie sheet in the sink. Baked sugar becomes like super glue as it cools. I learned this the hard way one year when the bacon stuck to almost salvageable levels one year.
Serve and enjoy.
