Enough said, that they are not organics, in common sense - they are made of light, in a weird way (to which they refer to as "Khalay" as well).
As the result - one is barely a mortal thing, unless sealed in a place with no light - or other Khalay.
Also, they are able to reproduce only by claiming life of others.
