A quick drawing I did up for my journal skin on Deviantart, but thought I might make into a badge here on FA as well. Came out rather nicely I think! I need to do more with Saga like this.
Nothing quite beats classic statuification.

I am always interested to know what other's have in their mind with petrification and what the transformee is feeling and what they expereince when they are completely transformed.
Are they alive and able to see and hear like normal, but just incapable of moving to respond back. Are they 'unconcious' unaware of time passing and have fallen into a deep sleep as it is finished. By the art style and light hearted nature of the pictures, I assume that this isn't a terminal experience. But I am interested in what your idea as to what they go through when they are stone, through and through. And how many of the situations you have already drawn are permanent?

For me, I do rather have some particular tastes where it comes to petrification (or indeed any sort of inanimate transformation, like furniture among other things.) I like for the subject or transformee to feel each and every inch of a creeping transformation, not in a painful way but I certainly don't preclude some discomfort, especially if it's a rather radical transformation. One would expect that having your whole being turn into immobile stone might cause a little discomfort! In general, I have that carry on to the post-TF state.
The petrified statue should have more or less all of their senses, albeit with certain restrictions on them. Sight, for example, would be present but locked in one direction given the state of the eyes and their inability to move. Though it might also be further restricted if it's a faceless or cloth transformation, like with the ponyquins, they might have their sight taken down to the blurry notch of "looking through thin cloth" in addition to being locked in one direction. Touch would be present but slightly muted or numb, which prevents things like itches and pain but still lets you feel the warmth of a living thing touching your cold stone or a tap. Hearing would be much like touch, present but slightly muffled, so that you'd only be able to really make out the stuff nearer to you, like listening through a thin wall or screen. They'd of course be incapable of any sort of movement in such a state, or acknowledgement of anything happening in the world around them, but I enjoy for the mind and its complete faculties to be present and running. Their conciousness is the same as ever, just restricted. ^^
If someone were to cast a telepathy spell directly on them, that might be a bridge for communication as long as the spell existed, but one would first need to know that they were an animate statue in the first place, and if the TF is done right that could be really hard to tell. Like Saga here, looks very composed on a plinth and posed well with a name plate and everything, one wouldn't immediately assume that WAS Saga after the TF, and if they didn't know her? There wouldn't even be an inkling.
It's never a terminal experience for me, I haven't drawn that and probably never will actually. But that's not to say it wouldn't alter perception of time a little. I like to think of the state of being petrified as requiring input around you to keep you conscious of the world. For example, ponies near you, things moving in your rigid sight, sounds of birds or voices, anything like that. If you wind up without them for a long period of time, like if you were put in a storage crate or hidden away, you might wind up falling into a trace or sleep-like state with or without dreams until something comes back into your senses and wakes you up so to speak. That would however make it so time could crawl if you were placed in a busy place, like a museum, public garden, or a gallery, so you'd wind up living day to day like a normal pony- watching and listening as visitors came and went, then sleeping through the night while the place was closed.
I'm not too big a fan of drawing a line that says "permanent" or "temporary" on a situation. There's not really any such thing as permanent in the world of Pony magic, or any magic for that matter, for if your form is changed one way it can be changed back, or at least into something else animate at a later point. However! I am a huge fan of making things "indefinite", that is to say the transformee has no control over it and they do not know when or if they'll ever be released. It would require input from someone outside to alter their state, so it could wind up being a couple days, years, or even centuries, and in some cases it might not ever happen, in which case it would be effectively permanent. Gilda becoming stone, turning into a chair, Cadance statue, Saga becoming a ponyquin, all of those are in the category of indefinite. They COULD last forever, but I like to let the story beyond be formulated in the mind of the viewer. If you enjoy it being permanent, well, then my stuff will work! Similarly if you enjoy it being not permanent, it also works. ^^
Sorry about the text wall! I got started and couldn't stop. XD

That is perfectly fine! I just knew with the kind of dedication and love that comes with a picture you do always has a back story, something to add to it. I just like to ask, to have a basis for an artist that if I see a picture of their's that interests me, I know what rules/ideas apply to it. Then I feel I can enjoy it as the artist had it in their head.
I quite enjoy the similarities of senses and the feeling of magic washing over the body and changing it.
Also, the implications of of it being a rather long time, where a random discovery has you freed in a year or so, but it could also be that one mystery that becomes legend. Where did that pony go, they would ask, as other ponies trying to make a name for themselves write their exploits as they started at the statue and looked for years. Never to find them.
Thanks for sharing you ideas

Yep, the gradual petrification process is definitely something I prefer too, but I can see the appeal in someone being turned very quickly into a shocked and awakwardly posed statue! And what you say about the subject feeling every part of them change is also something I like the most. It would be like when your feet or hands go numb and get that tingly sensation, or like in Dombrus' stories with the sensations of being squished down into a stone shell.
I imagine Saga becoming a statue in a public place with lots of passersby. She would experience what it's like to become stone, then watch all the ponies walk by and go about their lives for a while. Some might touch or tap on her, causing the statue to feel all sorts of sensations under the marble skin, but maybe she's just trying to be looked at like a pretty artwork? Who knows except the statue? Every day, a pony visits and uses a telepathy spell to chat with her, and soon enough another statue has joined her nearby that looks awfully familiar...

Oh no, this is so cute and really appealing...
I've been thinking quite a lot recently about willing / self-inflicted statue transformations. It brings to mind a few things, like do they find it fun? This will sound very strange, and perhaps even slightly creepy, but are you interested in RP? Anyway, this is another excellent piece of art, in more ways than one.

I'm glad you like it~! <3
I've been meaning to try more willing and happy transformations, they're a whole different experience. I'd say it has to do mainly with the context of the person being transformed, who they are and what they enjoy. I know Saga, and perhaps by extension myself, would definitely enjoy it or find it fun, hence why she drank that thing in the first place! Not creepy at all, I do a lot of RP with ponies through Secondlife actually at Roanoak, but I can't say I do too much elsewhere. XD

I bet she'll want to be a statue for a long time, possibly forever. I really love how you used the concept of petrification and make it sound less horrifying than how it's usually portrayed. I do have a similar idea called the "Floofy Statue", it's where a pony can be encased in blue fur like a fluffy statue. How long they can be like that is indefinate, whether it'd be a few days to even permanent. I was wondering what you think of the idea of being petrified in soft, blue fur?
You bet she would! Indefinite though, might be the better term- I'm a real big fan of just not knowing how long it'll be. Whether it's a week or forever, if you don't know then it makes it all the more exciting and mysterious! Gives you something to ponder while you're frozen solid~
And I can't say as I have, how would that go exactly? Kinda like turning into a plushy?

It's almost like being turned to stone, but you'll be made of floof instead. You would be a statue made of floof. How long it lasts is indefinite. Unlike the hard pressure you'd feel as the stone encases you, when you are encased in floof, you will still feel some pressure, but it's more of a soft, tickling sensation. You'll still be able to see, but depending on how much floof you are encased in, your vision will be fuzzy. You'll still be able to hear, but it'll be muffled like being inside a stuffed animal. You'll still be able to feel, but it is numb and for the most part you'll be feeling the soft floof around you. Like a stone statue, you would not be able to move at all and you'll only be think and speak internally.
