Asriel became the new King and started a war using his hyperdeath form and (I forgot her name) is just disgusted be his actions and lives in the old ruins with Toriel now?
That's my Hypothesis.

Asriel was doing what Asgore did but was much more aggressive. Needing only one more soul, the moment he heard of frisk appearing in the ruins. He hunted them down.
Frisk however, met Wendy at the flower garden, where they quickly became friends.
The encounter happened at the tree. Asriel forced Wendy away from Frisk into Stella's arms.
Stella was trying to talk Asriel out of it but Asriel was acting more or less like Undyne at the time. "I don't have time to talk to you about this Stella. I have better things to do! Like freeing are people!"
Stella backed down reluctantly.
Wendy did not.
Wendy struggled and swiped at Stella (scar on cheek) just as Asriel prepared to kill Frisk.
The end result is a healthy Frisk. Covered in dust, tears streaming down there face...
Stella screamed. Asrial Looked bewilderd. Wendy's soul trembled.
... then shattered.

Fast Forward a few years. Frisk is living with Stella, they have a lot of monster friends.
Asriel, stopped hunting for human souls. He works to redeem himself for the evil. He released the six souls he had. He watches over Frisk to ensure they are happy and healthy from the shadows. He makes it a chore to ensure Stella never sees him, knowing the pain he caused her.
Stella... struggles. Truly the only thing stopping her from taking her own life is Frisk. Toriel tries to help when she can, but not as much as she wish she could.

Twice a year. Stella comes to the tree where her sister's soul shattered. Every Birthday she brings her a Nice cream. And tell her some of those bad jokes she loved so much.
When she comes on the day she died. She is never the first one there. Asriel is always there first, standing right where he was when he cast the spell. They stand in silence.
When Stella turns to leave, he always says the same thing.
"W-Why?... why didn't i listen to you Stella?.."
She only ever has this to say.
"Asrial...

Don't you have anything better to do?"... He openly sobs. Every time.

Bueno tengo una hipotesis

Supongo que Chara tuvo que ver con Stella, tan solo ver como esta ella como su cara y le falta su abrigo y boina, probablemente Chara la poseyó a ella , asi para controlarla ponerse en contra de sus seres queridos y tratar de salir del subterráneo pero se repite la misma historia de juego pero esta vez con ella, Stella pone resistencia y se opone ante Chara y obviamente Stella sale herida, Asriel tuvo que usar las 6 almas para salir y buscarla pero ya era demasiado tarde para ella

Si esto no es, entonces al menos me alegra compartir mi primera hipotesis ^^;
