The story of Hector Banks and the hall of shattered glass.
There was nothing but voices whispering from the clouds, all of them were grey and foreboding. They spoke in unison, hissing the same words, “Grief, destruction, failure, rejection these shall come upon you”. They became louder until they became one solid high pitch beep. I shot awake bolt upright! I hit the alarm clock in a panic. That’s another 10$ in the bin. I don’t have 10$ to throw away! “Out of university working as waiter with a masters in geology just what I wanted, scraping a living because there's no other work”! I got out of bed and looked in the mirror I saw a wolf with brown and grey flecks of fur, a bit out of shape, no real tone on the muscles, nothing attractive about him.
I looked around at my bedroom it really needed tidying. Everything was strewn everywhere, cloths all over the unmade bed alongside a laptop, with an empty pot noddle on the side table. I looked for my cloths in the draws. Where was that ugly uniform? I took it out revealing its true ugliness, it was blue and green and had a checked pattern. I was always worried when I cycled down the road I would give someone an epileptic fit. I stumbled though the kitchen which was actually clean for once. I opened the door and slammed it behind me. I unchained my cheap bike from the wall. I cycled out and looked at the cars and the narrow strips of houses then to the right side and looked upon the pebbly beach with the sunrise in the distance. The café was within sight then I chained my bike up again. When I arrived, I was greeted by an absolute dunce of a boss! “Your two minutes late! What was so worthwhile in your morning that you thought you could be late”! Before I could reply he blurted out “Yes that’s right nothing now get to work”! What a charming jaguar he was. Short and chubby, wearing a suit that really showed off his appetite. He made me want to throttle him every time he opened his fat flapper.
I walked in without saying a word and got behind the cooker and waited. Whilst waiting, lots of psychotic ways of murdering my boss came into my mind, and what a nice carpet he would make. Luckily an order disrupted my chain of thoughts. I walked over with a tray of food and set it down in front of two ripped guys one a bull the other an ocelot. As I organized the plates, I herd them talking about the hall of shattered glass my ears pricked up, it sounded interesting. “Interested are we”? A deep gentle tone asked I turned around suddenly to a bull looking me straight in the eyes. “Sorry I did not mean to be rude” I quickly said. He quietly said “I think it's your lunch break now, why don’t you have a seat”? I thought it would be best not to argue so I sat on the wooden black seat. I avoided their looks, looking at the checked floor, black chairs, and white tables, and the seaside outside of the window. “Hey we are over hear not out there” Snapped a gravely voice I looked back at the yellow and black ocelot then at the plain black horned bull. “You know a bit much for our liking” said the bull. “How about you say you're sick right now, and we give you a lift home”? “How about no” I snapped said “Your choice” the ocelot muttered they left taking the food with them. A sense of relief flooded my body, I didn’t even hear anything except treasure, and something about a hall of shattered glass. What were they, modern day treasure hunters? They did seem a bit thick, that’s all I herd any way. I don’t know what they thought, but I knew I was happy now, my tail was more upward and wagging only slightly. I waited by the cooker, looking at the waves crashing about outside. I did a few more services even got a few generous tips.
As I once again stood by the cooker, I herd heavy footsteps, and the door to the mangers office flew open. He looked like he was going to burst into flames any second. “A WORD IF YOU DON’T MIND” he bellowed. The whole café looked at me, I looked at everyone back, and then turned into the scummy untidy office. It had a desk with mountains of bills on it, and a small lamp, as well as a really bad painting of a forest on the wall signed Mark. He looked at me and squawked “I have had a major complaint about you” I was confused I had tips and all. I thought I had done well. He continued “two men said they had been cursed at and where deeply offended by your actions” My heart fell into the pit of my stomach, my memory jogged. “IF YOU DON’T TALK TO THEM RIGHT NOW YOU GET THE CAN” he shouted. I turned around opening the door, my face felt numb. The whole café was staring at me, some snickered as I left, but that was not a major concern right now. I slowly was walking out side, I looked around at the street and the cars going past, and the lovely shore line. The only problem was that the clouds had caved in, and looked like they did in my dream. I wondered where they were, not that I wanted to meet them. I saw an ocelot face beckon me to alley behind the café. As I turned down an alley, I shouted at them “WHAT THE HELL YOU PLAYING AT”. The ocelot shifted away from the bull. This gave me confidence. I felt myself getting hotter “I only know two things treasure and the hall of shattered glass.” “I don’t like lies” The bull threatened and got closer, right in my face. I could smell his mayonnaise lunch, I hated mayonnaise. I recoiled back. “You're in the wrong century for a pirate treasure hunt, or maybe It hasn’t reached your small brain that you stop this stuff when you become eight years old.” I felt so smug with that one liner. I turned around to leave. To my dismay that ocelot was blocking the way. “Behind you” he said plainly. I looked to see a semi-hoof hurtling toward me, and impact upon my face. I felt a crunch in my snout and I stumbled in circles, the world started spinning and I crashed to the concrete floor.
