The Rommel is the main heavy tank of the German Bundeswehr from Ted Sheppard's "Stosstrupp" comic series. These are the first of several profiles I did based on Sheppard's designs printed in his "Stosstrupp Review" 'zines
The top profile is that of the Rommel itself but expanding on the simple profile found in issue #1 of "Stosstrupp Review". I added "schürzen", or side skirts, a fume extractor, and a thermal sleeve to the gun barrel. The side skirts were meant to defeat low velocity HEAT rounds, anti-tank rifle rounds, and trigger HEAT rounds with stand-off probes before they hit the hull.
The middle profile is a dedicated tank destroyer based on the Rommel chassis. It removes the turret and puts the cannon in a heavy mantlet mounted in a low profile hull. Schürzen are used as well along with bolt-on armor on the hull and superstructure front. This is my own design and not found in the "Stosstrupp" story line.
The bottom profile is that of a armored personnel carrier ("battle taxi") made using war weary Rommel chassis. It is a bare bones ad-hoc modification but retains the hull machine-gun found on the Rommel. It is open topped and not sealed for NBC. Again, this is my own variant and not one found in Sheppard's story line.
