Whatever the artist intended, I have a picture of how this scene was arrived at in my mind. The Mom was widowed in middle age, richly left but full of grief. After some months of mourning, she and her daughter (who was single and hating it) decided there was nothing to be gained from moping around. They hit the gym, visited the city's best designer wear and naughty lingerie stores, had their hair done and finally hit the night together, oozing allure and ready for romance!
