Development art for a upcoming commission for
Banner. The piece will involve an anthropomorphic black leopard in late 1970's to early 1980's USAF gear standing in front of a T-38A Talon Advanced Trainer. I had done some preliminary head studies but this was the first time I started incorporating the character and the flight gear.
Fortunately the client has provided me some excellent reference since he was a USAF pilot at that time. The biggest thing I am grappling with at the moment getting a thorough understanding of the flight gear and how I need to adapt it to the anthro form. Of particular interest is the flight helmet. Fortunately I will get a chance to sit with the client in a couple weeks at Further Confusion and get some very useful feedback from him.
I hope you like what you see. Please help make more art like this possible by supporting me at Patreon

If you ever get the chance to go there, do not miss it! I went once some 30+ years ago when I was in the service, and have been meaning to go back ever since.
On a more local note, there are some good museums in the LA area (Plans of Fame for example) and there is a good one here in Sacramento at the former McClellan AFB.

I've got my old custom helmet with the center visor knob if you want pictures (with the 23rd Wing Flying Tiger mascot, no less). The newer ones are lighter, more comfortable and the visors are uncovered, very light and can be flicked down into position easily...not as cool-looking as the old style but a helluva lot more comfortable on the cranium at 6 g's.
