Considering some of the idiots I've read about up here in Maine (and New Hampshire), that wouldn't be enough protection, I'm afraid to say.
In one instance in NH, the hunter was fined when he tried to tag a sheep at the tagging station.
And here in Maine, sadly, some farmer lost one of his Holsteins, despite a bright orange vest on its back and "COW" painted on said vest in very large letters.

Now, now, its times like this that you need to practice "environmentally friendly" meat consumption like my father (shudder). Knock out the deer (or cow), cut off the hunk you want, sew'em back up and send them back out in the pasture. He prefers his meat so under done that a good doc/vet could save it. (ick)
