Force field bucler is good idea, I think there are wrist mounted small shields in cannon.

It does make sense. Now that they've opened up the canon with Kylo Ren's crossguard saber and Nines (FN-2199, the riot control trooper) parrying a saber with a stun baton I'm hoping they'll have a variety of new and interesting weapons and melee fighting styles in future movies.

From Clone Wars on I started seeing it as a plot hole that the Dathomiri witches hadn't basically conquered the galaxy after ROJ. There's no reason they couldn't breed lots of daughters with the males and build an army with magic, awesome energy (or whatever) bows, and why not use sabers and blasters too? The way I see it the Jedi have basically been draining the galaxy of force users by kidnapping and training them all as Jedi who don't (at least legitimately) have children. With the Jedi gone and the emperor out of the way any really powerful group of force users should have had a chance to gain an upper hand, or claw, in the galaxy.
