So yeah, I came up with a concept the other day of a race of cyborg like ex-slaves, The Discarded.
It goes like this - once there was an elder race that had grown so old and wise and in tune with the universe that they barely felt alive any more. Their bodies had faded to hollow chambers for their immense minds, yet they were kept alive indefinitely by near perfect replicator technology in clean and pristine chambers.
A group within the perfect race decided to regress, choosing a planet to Terror-form. An already inhospitable climate was pumped full of replicated hydrocarbons (fossil-fuels - oil, coal, gas etc.), carcinogens, smog, and the like. Along with this they seeded the grounds of the planet with higher than average basic materials such as carbon and iron.
Having done this, they took new bodies with their technology, and set out onto this perilous world to once again 'experience' life without their sophisticated technology. The only thing they allowed themselves was a device that would save their mind at body-death, so that they could be re-lifed.
Soon, however, they got bored and decided to kill each other.
Massive orchestrated wars were fought onboard rusting juggernaut land vehicles designed to run on the crude oil that pooled upon the ground of the planet. Eventually the race decided that they needed slaves, so created a modified copy of themselves.
These new creatures were inherently fragile, their bodies succumbing to disease and damage quickly. Which was no matter, the Race simply used their machines to replicate more.
The time came again when they got bored of killing each other and decided to return to their state of Nirvana, taking with them the lessons they'd learned and leaving behind the replicants, not expecting them to live long.
This wasn't the case however, and a couple hundred years later they have thrived, building a crude society of their own, exploiting the endless reserves of energy on the planet. They call themselves the Discarded, and as a race hold a bitter resentment to their former masters - intending to make them pay heavily for their injustices.

I like the effects you used on this image, the way you composed your character of half biological and half mechanical elements, and that little backstory accompanying it. Probably even a fictional continuing of today human civilization? Would be glad to read more about them!
