This is Mochi, a member of the 'Ssistant race and denizen of Robin's house. More on him after a short explanation of what a 'Ssistant is!
'Ssistants were created by a mage one day, after determining that goblin minions were more harm than good, butlers and servants costed a good deal of money, and his loyal dog was always friendly and there for him, asking for only a place to stay, food, and love in return. Created to help creative types around the laboratory, study, studio, or other place of work, they were designed with a few key abilities. Incredible durability is the first, allowing 'Ssistants to handle accidents in the workplace with minor, if any, injury. Typically they will flatten and bounce back, with all but the most fragile of 'Ssistants able to be pressed almost paper thin with no harm done to them. Any deformation of the body usually reverts in a matter of a few seconds, up to a minute or so for grievous 'injuries'. 'Ssistants also come with creative minds no matter their personality, as well as a tendency to bond with the first individual that treats them like family. This bond allows a degree of mental communication with their bond target, usually in the form of emotion or simple thoughts, as well as an intense loyalty. Terrible treatment or the death of the bond target can break a bond, but with intense depression on the part of the 'Ssistant until a new bond is formed, and even then the memories may linger. 'Ssistants also come with a brand determining their breed. The original creator of the species created only three breeds, their abilities as follows.
Moon: 'Ssistants of this breed have a mystical ability to perfectly remember and recall anything they wish if they concentrate. The original intent for this ability was to help their bond target keep notes, remember recipes, passwords, or anything else of that nature. Nowadays Moon brand 'ssistants that intend to make heavy use of the ability often work in information heavy jobs, as mages themselves, alchemists, chefs, librarians, or anyone else who needs to remember a great deal of minutiae.
Sun: 'Ssistants of this brand either have vestigial sized wings that they can grow large enough to use, or can conjure wings of pure magic. The type of wings they have depends on the individual, just as many other physical features of 'ssistants. Their flight isn't perfect, usually only letting them carry about 50 extra pounds with them at the absolute most, and they usually can't fly higher than 100 feet. Though their magic makes hovering very simple. The power was intended to help the bond target carry things to and fro, and reach high shelves or other areas without any great difficulty. Nowadays, 'ssistants intending to make use of this power tend to incorporate it easily in their day-to-day lives or jobs.
Star: 'Ssistants of this brand are able to temporarily create small, solid or mildly mechanical objects such as a wrench or pliers from pure magical force. The original intent was to help their bond-target with actual creation, whether doing the work or merely providing easy access to the needed tools. Nowadays, 'ssistants intending to make heavy use of this ability often get jobs as creators themselves, either inventing, crafting art, building things, or other jobs of that nature.
After the 'ssistant race's success, countless other mages and scientists began creating their own models. The designer models and special brands all eventually sort of collapsed into the race proper... Most 'ssistants are Sun, Moon, or Star, but countless other brands do exist, with their own powers. As well, the race is incredibly physically varied. The only constant is the '2"6 to '3"6 digitigrade reptilian body shape, long floppy rabbitlike ears, and vibrant colors. Their tails alone can be short and stubby, long and thin, or long and thick. Tipped perhaps with nothing, salamander or sea serpent style fins, arrow or spade head tails, puffs of fur, or sometimes even the rare tailmaw. Sun 'ssistants can have wings ranging from miniature bat wings, to feathered, draconic, insectile, or even pure magic. 'Ssistants might have nubby horns of varying shapes, fins on their heads, antennae, nothing at all, or some combination of the types. And every 'ssistant has a distinctive coloration. Their colors can be any in the spectrum, although typically their colors stick all to one type (Light, dark, or middling) and patterns are usually only stripes, splotches, or polka dots.
After laws were passed prohibiting the keeping of even artificial sentient races, the 'ssistant race was let free in the world, allowed to roam and have children and continue the line, and nowadays they are considered as much a person as any other. It's hard to find a truer friend, and many a fantastic work of art or contraption has been built by a 'ssistant getting into a creative zen.
Mochi in particular was introduced to Robin through a friend, and the two hit it off easily with Robin providing the little guy a place to stay in the redwood mansion. Since then, Mochi has been provided with all the tools he needs for his alchemical trade, providing potions to Robin, his friends, and whatever customer might by them... As well as creating a good many just to see what he can get away with. In fact, this particular mindset has stuck the 'ssistant in a permanent form change to a living cartoon. The reference up there is just about exactly how he'd look in real life, always seeming flat no matter the angle you view him. He doesn't mind, especially since this has made him that much more durable. He's a little easy to embarrass, and a little cautious, but it's hard to find a kinder person.

Big thanks to
wolfertech for this wonderful Christmas present! He did a wonderful job on it. If you wish to have an image like it, he's doing PWYW commissions! Make sure to note him. He'll draw you anything, so long as it's clean! Go favorite his original here, as well! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18718106/
The 'ssistant race, by the way, was designed when I decided I liked kobolds and especially cutebolds a great deal... But my own stories of them were straying immensely from the originals, so I figured I may as well make something more mine! I do hope you enjoy them. If anyone ever ends up being interested in them, they're free to make 'ssistants of their own!
