mental/physical progress
oh man dgzfgdgd I am super hesitant about uploading thiss and I understand it's totally uncalled for where this is a furry art site, but I've always been very open with you guys about myself and this is something i have been working on for like 4 years so I want to share incase any of you are struggling and want to change (either physically or mentally). I'm posting it here mostly because just posting it on my tumblr will only reach people who are interested in health and fitness, but for me the transformation goes way beyond the physical one.
in the top image I absolutely hated myself and I had a very obsessive relationship with food. I couldn't bear the thought of food being wasted so I would gorge myself just to finish my plate (or someone elses). At university I would go to the meal hall by myself and get a bunch of food and just eat in the corner after meals when my friends had gone back to their rooms. After I saw a really terrible photo of myself I realized how much weight I had gained in just one semester of university (around 20lbs). In an attempt to lose weight, I became very restrictive which only made my relationship with food more obsessive. I was very unhappy and for a couple years I never saw much progress because of a constant cycle of restricting and binging.
Up until last year I was ALWAYS stuck at 145lbs even though I thought I was doing so well. But I was very hard and negative on myself which resulted in a lot of stress and unhappiness. I took a huge turn last year and I broke free from a life that was making me unhappy. I had no home, no belongings, and no friends. I broke free from absolutely everything. After I did that I felt so much better about myself. I finally felt strong and like I could take charge of my life and I didn't need to settle. Without even trying, I realized I had dropped 5lbs in a short period of time. I started really focusing on improving my mind more than just my body. I focused on becoming a more positive, forgiving person and when I began to pair this with healthy eating and exercise(which created a cycle of self-esteem), my body really started showing progress. I'm so happy and grateful for this life and I'm proud of the person I've become, and I 100% owe that positive energy for the changes in my body. My life has just fallen into place and if I didn't have the strength to choose to put myself first, I know I'd still be that same miserable place hoping things would just eventually change by themselves.
To some of you, the top one might not be that bad. And to some of you the bottom one might not be good enough. But it's about each individuals journey and I can tell you the mental difference between each photograph is much greater than the physical. I know some of you may be in terrible situations in which you feel you have no control, but how you react to hardship and how you choose to grow will ultimately determine your happiness. you are not a slave to life's whims.
//sorry to go all deep and spiritual on your ass but if this helps absolutely anyone then I'll be happy ;w;

OMG, you look great! Both top and bottom photos are nice, but I love your improvement it must've been hard to do. If you don't mind me asking, what do you eat currently and what kind of exercise do you do? :o I'm with you for the struggle to loose weight and it is massively hard to do;; I weigh far more than your above picture lol, still I want to try!
Thank you!
I just finished a little 10 day 'detox' where I didn't eat any sugar, gluten or dairy, but normally I eat toast and pb, yogurt with pecans and flax, protein and vegetables, lots of fruit, etc. I just try to stay as clean as what I find manageable. I find drinking water does WONDERS for my weight too. I drink a hot lemon water every morning before I eat breakfast, I find it really helps flush out your system.

Thank you <3 Like I said, being easy and forgiving with yourself is the absolute best and healthiest thing you can do. when I stopped punishing myself for 'messing up' (aka enjoying my life) it really became sustainable. Good luck to you, and don't be afraid to contact me if you ever need some support.
What matters most is that YOU are happy with the transformation you've made with your life. Congratulations on figuring out a system that works for you and makes you so much happier. In the end, that's what matters most.
Hopefully I can take your words and use them to better myself. I've always struggled with my own weight, and I too can see that part of it is probably the self-esteem/mental health issues that makes it hard to actually improve. Thank you for posting this, even if it was a little scary~

I believe you're beautiful in the before and after... but such an amazing transformation. I think you've hit your perfect shape... and shape is what's important. Too often people focus on the pounds, forgetting that you actually get heavier when you put on muscle mass.
I'm so glad you journey has been such an enormous success. Be proud!

you look very beautiful in both picks and I'm very happy for you that your journey turned out great. I'm proud of the progress you've made. continue moving forward. you can only go up from there. I know I'm just a stranger or a nobody to you. but I'm very happy for you and what you have accomplished. *hugs* if it's ok, I'm going to write a poem about your journey. the feels that you wrote in your discription really got some words flowing into me. :)
I am honestly so inspired and impressed that I'm beyond words.
Your description really touched me, even more than the photo. You are so right about mental health being the key to success!
People very often overlook the fact that the physical and the mental are deeply interconnected, and inform each other along the way.
If we're struggling mentally, often our bodies reflect that -- and vice versa!
I really needed to see this success today. Thank you for sharing.

That's great for you ^_^ I went the other way on mine, going from 130 to 150, but not as fat, as muscle instead when I was working at a bar, lifting kegs all the time. The weight lifting daily and for the better part of 18 hours a day really got me in shape! Glad you got what you worked for :D
The top one really isn't bad at all, you still look physically healthy, the bottom one is fit without being unhealthy. Over all I think what matters most is the mental progress you made and the healthy choices and changes you implemented to better yourself. It's nice to see and do keep at it mate. Congrats. <3
I am so happy to read this!! I was right there with you. My weight over the last 10 years has yo-yoed down 100lbs, up 100lbs, down 120lbs (anorexic at this point). I finally figured out what was wrong with me and fixed it mentally and physically. Im now happy with a loving boyfriend and at a healthier weight. I got lazy and happy so im up a tiny more than i would want to be but i feel great ^u^ 20lbs or so and i would be at a normal weight for my height (but i carry it in all the right places x3 )
Again i am so so happy for you i know how incredible it can feel. Keep it up!!!

Extraordinary progress, I'm glad that you feel happier with yourself :)
Although I'm in the crowd that thinks the before isn't that bad, I think you're at a lovely place today. You look fit, healthy, strong and natural, and I really hope that you're content and satisfied with the shape you are right now ^^

AMazing transformation! In your before pics, you can tell you aren't very confident, but that all changes in the current pics! You carry yourself with more pride and confidence! I'm very proud of you! You're an inspiration to those, like me, who want so badly to make a change in our own lives for the better! Keep it up! You're gonna go far, kid!
Absolutely! Awesome observation. I can really see it too, now that you mention it. Even with the state of the room behind me and the clothes in the first one you can really tell I don't give a shit bahaha. Thank you so much, and good luck to you! You're just as capable of making a change if you stick to it :)
Thanks!
I'm not a fantastic chef either, so I always kept it pretty simple. PB toast, eggs, yogurt with flax, banana with pb and cinnamon, stirfry without rice (or with, but I try to limit my carbs), throw a bunch of leftover veggies and/or protein in a box of broth and call it a stew, etc. Just keep it easy with minimal prep and ingredients and eventually you'll get the hang of it. Once you start feeling more adventurous, look up some recipes online or in a book :) Good luck! Also really try not to hate your body, self-love will do you far better than any diet.

You hit the nail on the head - trying to lose weight without taking care of your mental health is treating symptoms, not the actual problem. Only rarely do people get overweight because they simply love eating so much or because they're lazy. The majority of them get overweight because their mind is not in the right place. The journey back to a healthy body starts with working on getting a healthier mindset.
Your story reminds me that I need to work on that again, and for that I thank you. Congratulations on your progress - you look great and I bet you feel so much better about yourself! I know exactly what that's like, I've undergone a similar journey in the past year but I've let myself slip. I need to start taking care of myself again. mind and body.

congrats on your progress! You look great! This is very inspirational, I'm actually embarking on a similar journey myself. I'm tired of life's hardships and tired of feeling consumed by negativity, anxiety and depression. I've already started to notice a difference in my figure, it's slight, but its a start :3 yay for good feels!!
Congratulations! I'm someone who struggles with weight it's medical and mental for me. I have PCOS so losing weight is a terrible struggle and i hate myself and have started hating everything I do because of it. I want to get better but I'm stuck at the spot where I don't know where to start. I need to get meds so that my workout does something ut I can't afford so it's a vicious cycle at the moment my hope is that a better job opportunity will come my way or that my art gets noticed and i can do more commissions to pay for it. Who knows but thank you for being brave and posting this. Your a great person!
I'm sorry to hear about your PCOS, I've heard it's very difficult. Just keep self-love in mind and forgive your body for gaining weight. Take it easy on yourself. Just eat healthy and workout as best you can and you will feel healthier and happier. Focus on improving your relationship with your body before stressing too much about your weight. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll figure something out! :) Thank you for the support!
Thanks! I follow the monthly Blogilates calendar (pilates, around 60 min day with some hiit 6 days a week) but my eating is just self regulated. I try to minimize carbs but I'm not particularly restrictive (minus the 10 day detox I just had from sugar, gluten and dairy). I appreciate it, that's awesome! I'm trying really hard to get a job at a gym. What do you do as a fitness advisor?
Burpees, high-knees, plank-jacks, mountain climbers, skaters, split squat jumps, star squats... everything that makes me want to die, basically. 45s or 50s on, between 10-15 minutes a day. I might gradually add more hiit but I absolutely hate cardio so I'm kinda putting it off haha.
Congrats to you, This is both inspiring and amazing to hear from you.
I'm glad you were able to get your self Happy and more healthy on your own accord!
Your journey wasn't easy but you persevered and made it. Very happy to hear of this journey.
I'm sure others will be as well. BUT most of all Congratulations to you and your accomplishment.

I've definitely had my ups and downs for this whole journey. I'll go strong for a few months like you said and I'll slide back down most of the way, but I've managed to keep picking myself up and continuing. Kind of like a 'take 3 steps, fall back 2".
Next, I plan to take over the world. (but no I'd like to get into lifting and more yoga!)

One of the best things on this site ever! also i see you added some more tattoos. what are they of? I have tried to help people boost their confidence in themselves and if they really wanted help with losing weight, I would happily give them advice, but the biggest downfall with most of the people is a bad mind set. Being consistent and motivated to be healthier in mind and body is a better way to go about it than "I'm fat and ugly" and giving advice and someone says "I'm lazy" make me squirm after taking my time to help. I am so happy for you and what you have done for your body and your mind. It is something more people need to strive for.
I've got a mandala and a rose on my shoulders and a moth on my back. :)
I know exactly what you mean. Nothing worse than someone who's so stubborn that they blame their surroundings and refuse to take responsibility for their life. I really admire people who are always working on becoming a better person, and investing in myself has been the most liberating experience of my life. Thank you so much, and don't give up on trying to enlighten people! That's something more people need to strive to do as well. :)

Congratulations! You did a wonderful transformation and it is very hard to change with things around you to distract you away from your goal.
I think you are a great person for doing this not only for your health but your state of mind. Many people don't realize that most of the problem is in their mind.

hella inspiring. i would like to be so determined, but i know my limitations are my insecurities, and i have yet to shed those. i keep a food diary now but my workout routine is in the toilet, and with school coming up in not sure ill ever progress past what i am.
so happy for you though!! you look amazing and im glad you are in good mental health!! keep it up!

Well the fact you know your downfall is a great start. Knowing what you need to work on is step #1! Food diaries are great, I've just gotten back into doing that too. Try checking out workouts on youtube (fitnessblender, tone it up, blogilates, etc) and if you're up to it, try to do one or as many as you can a day. Start slow, no need to jump into something super hard that's going to make you dread the next one. You've got this!
Thank you, I really appreciate it. Good luck to you, try your best! :)

I don't personally, but maybe avoid refined grains (really processed white bread, white pasta, processed sugar) and just eat food with ingredients you can pronounce on the label. It'll take some time, trial and error and research, but you'll figure something out!
Candy and sweets are my biggest downfall. I used to eat candy like literally every day. I'd recommend cutting it out cold turkey because sugar is so addictive, even small doses of it will make you crave more. I cut out sugar for 10 days and it's really helped reverse my tastebuds. Goodluck!

Awesome~ currently still fulfilling my progress as part of my resolution from last year and this year as well. Slowly reaching the body I want. I'm so close. I've lost a lot of weight and gain lots of muscle tones. ^.=.^
Very inspirational. If you can do it, those who are willing/want to can do it as well.

I was actually really surprised to see this in my inbox

This is massively inspiring because I'm at the weight (I think) that you are in the top pictures
and I'm just really negative about my body to myself and to other people
And seeing someone else pull through is just
for lack of a better word, inspiring
thank you for posting this<3

You're story is very inspiring and I wish you the best and continued improvement of all areas of your life. When you're happy and healthy you feel so much better and that's something that I'm working on right now. I too gained weight in college and then again recently and as I'm getting a little older I cant maintain the weight I'm happiest with like I used to be able to (I could eat anything and not gain weight) lately I've been really getting in the mindset of becoming healthier, not just weight wise, but also mentally as that's part of my weight gain (I also will stress eat & use food to feel better) so I'm really happy to have read your experience and see that making changes has really worked for you and that it's also not an overnight thing too.
HOoooooooly crap that's a big deal. Totally worth sharing here. I'm slowly getting in to doing more yoga and mild cardio, it's always a challenge to get the ball rolling, but things like this are definitely inspiring. I've got maybe 15 extra pounds to worry about so I'm doing okay, but I can use all the fit-spiration I can get, lol.
I've been trying really hard lately to lose weight, and I hit a road block. I was starting to think that I was stuck with this body and there's nothing I can do anymore to change it. I needed this. To see someone else dealing with the same issues. So thank you for sharing, and congratulations on your successes!
This is amazing the progress you made, it's so inspiring to see the results of someone deciding to make a change in their life and then work for it.
I think it is also amazing that you also chose to work on yourself mentally as well as physically because it seems they rely on each other to create success.
If this is your goal and you are happy with your results i would like to congratulate you, if you are still working to improve yourself then i hope your journey continues with nothing but positive vibes your way!

Fantastic work!!! It's always motivating to see other people taking up a life of ordeal and toil to chisel themselves into something tougher or leaner. Keep going at it!
I can relate a bit. Used to be fat from junior high to highschool myself, then just got SICK of how I felt all the time (both physically, and the toll it took on my immune system). It took a LOT of trial & error over the years (admittedly I didn't research fitness as much as I should've) and I often regained unwanted pounds that I had previously burnt off, but eventually got to where I am today. I love being a gym rat now.

Two thumbs up. Having just started on the path of self improvement myself, it's wonderful to see what other people have done, and even more so to hear that some have very similar struggles to my own. Sometimes loving yourself is enough -- but sometimes there's so much other stuff on your mind that you lose the motivation to start, the motivation to work... And sometimes you even lose your sense of agency in your life. I've struggled with the lack of motivation that comes from feeling like everybody else has more control over your life than you do. It's crippling, and I've clawed my way up from it only once. That I'm starting to do so now, after several years, encourages me to keep going, but seeing and reading about your self-driven changes, I salute you.
To everybody else who reads this: It's your life, and if you aren't in control of it (or, at least, if you don't trust the people who are), you need to make a change. It's one of the hardest changes there is, but it's worth all the struggles you will face along the way, to be in control of your life and to be happy with where it's going, even if you aren't there yet.

I've been struggling a lot too. I managed to lose 20lbs a year ago, but haven't been able to get back into the right mind frame since. I know I hold the key to my own happiness, but it's hard.
However, your image is an inspiration and congrats to you for everything you've accomplished. You are an amazing person and I hope I can find the inner strength to be half of what you are.

Dang, I had to scroll through a lot of comments to get to the bottom to leave a comment myself....but I did because what I have to say is just that important.
I have been a follower of your art since 2012 (on assorted accounts) and I've seen your art become more beautiful with the passing time. When I first started following you I was a beginning artist, and you were a huge inspiration to me. I absolutely adored seeing your art in my inbox, and often needed to resist favoriting everything you posted. Even now that I've started my own commission business your art inspires me to become a better artist. Your compositions are beautiful, your colors are always vibrant, and the feeling of everything you draw is apparent.
Now I've gotta admit that I don't read very many journals, but I've seen your vent art, I have FELT your vent art, and I want to tell you this is the most inspirational thing I have seen in years. Why? Because you made the changes you needed to make, and it's working for you. That is so so great. I'm ridiculously happy for you, and you have once again inspired me.
Keep doin' you, KaityCuddle.
