With the Ace of coins, wealth seems to pop up out of nowhere. It's a great card it you're hoping to get lucky with money. When this card is reversed it shows greed and materialism.
The 2 of coins is more about juggling finances. It shows opportunity for money making but you have to be careful. When this one is reversed it shows that you are reckless and possibly drunk.
People seem to enjoy references to things they remember and the coin materializing out of thin air made me think of Super Mario bros.

That's a very clever and creative twist, using Super Mario. They're suck lucky skunks, finding money hidden in mystery blocks, bricks, and minions of Bowser who seem really careless about dropping their money, unless Peach intentionally hid some money in secret places so Mario can buy 1UPs.
