"Bloom"
A piece inspired by my dear friend
Maquenda's character as well as our friendship over the past few years. This piece was started a few years ago now while I was visiting Taiwan but just never seemed to be finished. On tidying my computer I came across it again and decided to see if perspectives had changed enough to bring it to completion. Turns out they had. Sometimes it pays to step away from a piece when you feel you are grinding it, though most of the time I advise myself to work the piece while the idea's roots have first taken hold. A great many pieces I start and lose steam for along the way don't get finished, but I often keep them and return to them in an idle moment. With the turning of the old year into the new I have a tradition of tidying house and computer before I turn to the new page. This is also a time of reflection and I found myself feeling extraordinarily grateful for the influence and color this vivacious person has brought into my life. Thank you Maquenda.

I am forever grateful for our friendship and words cannot decribe how much I love you and how incredible this piece of art is...;_____;
Thank you for seeing Maquenda (and Nimmeth!) so clearly. You portrayed her with so much love...With the butterflies it brings back so many childhood memories, and new ones of our friendship
Thank you

Good GAWD lady. I want to rub my brain all over yours so I can get whatever it is that you have! Looking at this piece feels like someone is shooting a cool drug right into the pleasure centers of my brain. Such an absolutely gorgeous blend of plant and animal. I absolutely adore your color choices. So vibrant, but still delicate and not at all overpowering. I demand that you never stop being so awesome!
No not at all! This piece was started with the intent of carrying through from grayscale to color from start to finish but I grew frustrated and ended up switching to full color after a certain point and progress was much smoother. And yet I feel like I need to try again because I believe value to color has a walth of advantages unto itself that I just haven't tapped into!
No even with that one I ended up just switching to color at some point and abandoning the values. (so basically both attempts to work from value to color just have ended up taking me longer to do than just starting with color to begin with xP). But I may also be being impatient >:.
Such grace and elegance. You never cease to inspire. Thank you so much for sharing this deeply personal part of you (your art) because it drives me to explore my own art more as well as better appreciate the world around me (from which elements of this piece were inspired, such as the awe striking form of the big cat to the delicate symphony of the petals.). Please never stop sharing your journey with the world. You've touched me and countless others.
You are a beautiful soul and I am glad our paths had a chance to cross so many years ago. I feel blessed that through this medium we are capable to spread inspiration and motivation to grow as artists and people and, for my part, I am humbled to know my own work can serve as that device. Please do not stop creating and striving to illustrate your inner self in the art you create. I am happy to be here to help remind you why you do it and encourage you to continue striving for the vast unseen worlds of our untamed psyche's. So much beauty awaits and the world is made better by the making of this beauty <3.
Wow, Balaa, this just... wow! It took my breath away!
I remember seeing your art all the way back in 2006, and just discovered your gallery again and I'm blown away. All of your stuff is just so beautifully inspiring, and I'm so happy to have found it again.
All the little details in this piece, the colors, and how delicate all the little petals look is just absolutely stunning. Especially the ones on her chin, they look so soft and pretty. Also the eyes look so lovely, you gave them such depth that I can't get over. All the bugs' colors compliment Maq so perfectly and yet pop in their own way. I could go on and on forever. I'm very happy that you were confident to pick this picture up again, because it came out beautifully!
