Endless Realms bestiary - Koros Imp
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
The art director needed a low-level demon, so she picked ye olde classic impe to fulfill the role!

Yes, they're supposed to be small - not, like, teeny tiny or anything, but maybe like, I dunno, house cat-sized? And yeah, I don't think their strength is really, well, their strength - they're more the spying, scheming, blackmailing type, I think.
Also, seriously, screw exploding monsters XD I had a DM once who pretty much only ever threw exploding monsters at us >:E

Might and Magic VII and VIII both have gogs, which explode when they die. Heroes of Might and Magic III has "fire shield," a spell which does fire damage to any melée attacker. Then there's jinn sultans, which have fire shield inherently cast. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of arrows.
The Elder Scrolls typically do a good job of that, especially Skyrim, where they do away with classes entirely and you just pick whatever skill set you feel like.
I'm not a "systems/mechanics" person when it comes to PnPs so I can't say specifics since I don't know, but I know it can be done decently in D&D/Pathfinder, depending on what class(es) you pick and how you do it. Generally, though, the problem is that if you hybridize, you'll never be as good at either thing as a character that specializes.
You should probably play Druid if you play D&D/Pathfinder :b Perfectly serviceable combat character, melee or ranged, and excellent spell lists (mix of offensive, support, control and healing), and you have the option of shapeshifting, too, plus the option of either a combat pet or access to elemental magic.
Or cleric, actually. My cleric is SUPER specialized in support/healing, but clerics can be quite good offensively if you build them right. In our party now, in fact, I'm a healy support cleric, but we also have a warpriest, who is a super crit-happy tank/damage-dealer who self-buffs.

Ooh! If I could shapeshift, I would pretty much just be a wolf the whole time.
Also, clerics in Might and Magic have to swear off all bladed weapons, but they get to use maces. I don't remember if they can GM in 7 or 8, but in 6 you can master any skill that you learn, so clerics are great there if you like to bash stuff. Also, they get to learn light and dark magic, both of which have super powerful buffing and offense spells. 6 is really the best Might and Magic game for clerics.
