The Hero's Return- The Councils Plot
The Northern Mountains, a place of towering rock and freezing gales, mazes of ice and snow for miles and miles, it was a treacherous place to say the least, but a perfect secluded home for the dragons. The Village of Dragons as it was known to the outside had another name; Okarthel, this village was nestled deep in the heart of the mountains, tucked away safely from the dangers of the elements that kept their home safe from outsiders and invaders, though honestly, who would be dumb enough to try to attack a village of all powerful dragons? Someone had tried not too recently, the Sapphire Armada...these alien invaders had tried to attack Okarthel and the rest of the world, using one of the villages own sons against the world; The Dragon of Darkness, Ryu-Sosin. Ryu had been born in the village nearly two hundred years ago but due to a tragic youth, had been banished for eternity, slaying a child during a duel with his father, Zaldin. The elder drake giving up his status and legacy to protect his son who had lived as a Guardian of the World ever since being exiled to the lands beyond Okarthel, but now, the Council was about to discuss Ryu's fate once more.
Now this Council was comprised of the eldest dragons in the village, each of them wise beyond their years, having served for hundreds of years and surveying many matters that concerned their race, at least as far as Okarthel was concerned. You see there is more than one Council, for there are four villages in total, each in the compass directions, each with their own Council, though for truly grave matters of great importance, all the Councils would convene at once, this however had not happened in an age. The Councils always consisted of five drakes and their power and authority was absolute as decreed by the Dragon King, who often stayed out of the internal affairs of the other villages but would occasionally step in on matters where he felt it necessary. Each of the five Lords were on the way to convene this newest meeting, heading to the northernmost part of the village where the Council Hall had been built into the very mountain itself, where a vast dungeon lay to hold those who were being judged by the Council. The meeting hall was a vast circular room with the Councils seats horseshoed to view a large doorway, overlooking the Circle of Judgment where all matters that needed their decree were settled.
The Council arrived and soon took their seats, the lighting in the room casting shadows on their faces, which is kinda silly since they all knew each other, but dragons have a sense of flare and mysticism when it comes to certain things. “I hereby call this meeting of the Northern Council to order.” Gorai, the leader of the Council spoke in a commanding tone as the others rose and spoke an opening statement in their native tongue to signify the meetings start, once this was done each of them took their seats and Gorai spoke once more; “Lets get down to business, firstly, how are repairs coming from the alien invasion?” He asked as another member spoke; “Repairs are coming as planned, thankfully our Guard did their job to a high degree of success, the damage and casualties were kept to a minimum.” She spoke making Gorai nod; “Excellent. I expect those repairs and healers to get our wounded back up to speed as soon as possible.” Which was met with a resounding agreement from the rest of the Council as one of the eldest spoke next.
“Stop wasting time with trivial matters Gorai, we all know the REAL reason why we were called here today. That black bastard of a dragon Ryu-Sosin.” This made Gorai huff in disapproval softly; “Shiro, I will ask you to contain yourself until we get to that matter...” Gorai spoke as the old drake slammed his hand on the space in front of him; “We will discuss it NOW! We all know what that curse has done! He has broken the Taboo! Action must be taken!” This got the rest of the Council members riled up as they all knew that Shiro was correct, Gorai sighed; “Very well, I had hoped to get some lesser subjects taken care of first but so be it. We will discuss Ryu-Sosin and his hybrid daughter Ruby.” Gorai said dejectedly as Shiro took control; “We must KILL his offspring! The law is VERY clear on these matters!” This sparked the female Fara to speak up; “Now hold on Shiro, it's not as cut and dry as that, there are extenuating circumstances that must be accounted for here.” Shiro scoffed at this; “Bah, that dragon is a monster and he cannot have a line! Especially one that has the powers she does!” He shouted as he and Fara then went back and forth in a shouting match until Gorai roared to silence them.
“ENOUGH! Both of you! We are not infants trading playground insults! We are the Council! We will weigh this matter CAREFULLY and make a logical decision regarding this matter.” He said making them both growl at the other before taking a seat so he could continue; “Now, we all know that Ryu-Sosin was banished nearly two hundred years ago, but as with all dragons who share this fate, we have kept tabs on him and his dealings with the outside world and we can all agree that Ryu has become a model dragon since that banishment.” Gorai spoke making the others murmur in agreement, the black dragons accolades were well known as a Guardian after all, Fara speaking next; “While it is true that Ryu-Sosin has changed his ways since his youth, Shiro does have a point, cross breeding is strictly forbidden and must be dealt with.” This made Shiro smile as he wished nothing more than to see Ryu's destruction; “Then why are we even discussing this? We know the law, it calls for his offspring’s demise, so let's send a task forth to acquire her and bring her back here for beheading.” Gorai growled making Shiro slink slightly; “Because Shiro, there is more to be considered, as you well know. That offspring played a pivotal role in stopping the Alien Invasion.” He spoke making Shiro scoff as he didn't care about a detail like that, he wanted one thing when it came to Ryu-Sosin...blood.
“So what if she did!? That drake should NEVER have surrendered his mind to that witch! That invasion would never have happened if he hadn't been so foolish!” Fara flared at this remark; “Are you kidding Shiro!? In case you hadn't been aware the last century, that is what Ryu DOES! He helps people and that witch made him come to her and threatened an innocent life! Ryu did what any one of us would have done! And you KNOW that!” She said irate that he would even suggest such a thing, she continued further; “That hybrid showed real courage to stand up to her father who outclassed her, and it was her love that snapped Ryu back to himself and allowed the invaders to be expunged from our world! That must be taken into consideration!” Shiro snapped back at her; “The law is the LAW! It has stood for over a thousand years! You all know this to be true! When a dragon breeds with another species the results are a creature with power that shouldn't be allowed! And what is this girl!? Exactly that!!! She controls all the powers of the dragons, Fire and Ice but has also inherited the powers of her parents! She can manipulate shadow and lightening!!! Does that mean nothing!?” Shiro ranted as Gorai took command once more.
“Shiro, Fara, both of you make valid points, but there is one thing that we are neglecting here...what is most important to a dragon?” He asked making them all murmur as he continued; “Family...More precious than gold or diamonds and Ryu-Sosin has the power to defend his to the death, that is why this deliberation CANNOT be taken lightly, if it is, I fear it has a VERY real chance of blowing up in our faces.” He said as Shiro once more defied him; “You speak as if Ryu would storm the city, you forget his banishment prevents this, if he were to return, he would be killed along with his offspring.” Gorai sighed; “Shiro, have you heard NOTHING I've said? Is your hatred so deep that you would put the entirety of the village at risk to satisfy your vendetta?” He said making the others look at the elder drake who seethed; “And shouldn't I!? What have you all lost to that bastard!? NOTHING!!! Have you all forgotten that it was MY grandson that he killed!?” Shiro shouted as his eyes raged with tears at the memory that haunted him as much as it haunted Ryu; “I LOVED that boy! And that damn drake ended him before his time! He deserves to know my pain!!!” Fara spoke much calmer this time as she knew Shiro very well.
“Shiro, you think you are the only one who has suffered from that? You may not remember the look on Ryu's face that day, but I do. That was a soul crushing moment in his life, and it took him many decades to overcome it. I can say this with confidence that the path he walks now, is to try and atone for that event so many years ago.” She said soothingly, trying to calm the rage in her fellow Council member who balled his fist; “That drake, can suffer for all eternity for all I care! But his fate was decided long ago and if he decides to walk to his own death, I will gladly watch him die, but that is not the meaning for our meeting, we still need to decide his child's fate, now what say you all!?” Shiro barked as the Council murmured and thought it over as Gorai spoke; “Enough, I will not have a decision be made on an emotional level, we will adjourn for now and reconvene later when cooler heads will prevail.” He said as he rose and walked out with the others soon following after him, Gorai staying outside the meeting hall to discuss things with Shiro, the elder drakes meeting and walking to Gorai's office where they could discuss things in private. Once inside, Gorai locked them in so no one could interrupt them; “Shiro, you must let this hatred for Ryu-Sosin pass, it is consuming you and if you continue these outbursts I may have no choice but to replace you for a more level headed dragon.” Gorai began as Shiro looked at him with a shocked and angry expression.
“How dare you! I have a RIGHT to hate that dragon! And my years of service to the Council speaks for itself! You cannot threaten to kick me off the Council!” Shiro screamed as Gorai sighed and motioned him to sit; “That is how serious this is Shiro and I want you to understand that, of course I would never resort to kicking out one of my oldest friends, but you must contain your hatred to resolve this delicate matter.” He said in a calm voice that reflected his leadership and commanding rank, he then spoke; “Listen to me please, I have a plan but I will need your support for it. Will you hear me out?” He said as he sat at his desk and Shiro nodding in agreement; “Very well Gorai, what is this plan?” He said a little snidely but Gorai knew he understood, at least he hoped so as he took a deep breath and explained; “Listen, we need to understand more about Ryu's offspring but I don't want to leave her in the outside world and hope for the best...” He said as Shiro interrupted him; “And how do you plan to do that? Are you wanting to contact Ryu and ASKING him to send his daughter to us for an undetermined amount of time? Hah! He'll never go for such a thing...” Shiro scoffed making Gorai sigh again and continue.
“Of course that's NOT what I'm suggesting. Here is what I AM if you'll shut up and listen.” He said a little agitated making Shiro slump into the chair and keep quiet as he explained his plan; “I want to abduct Ruby, bring her before us for questioning. Maybe even find out the extent of her powers and abilities BEFORE casting judgment upon her for being born.” He said calmly as Shiro thought it over; “And what of Ryu-Sosin? What if he STILL comes for her?” He said making Gorai think a moment; “We will have guard stationed at all entrance points, baring a message that Ruby is not being harmed and asking him to wait for our summons.” this made Shiro laugh outright; “Seriously? After all that hoopla of not wanting Ryu to descend on the village, your plan is to ASK him nicely to wait while we interrogate his daughter?” Shiro said in a mocking fashion as Gorai roared to get his attention; “And WHAT would YOU have us do!? Invite a raging whirlwind into our village?! That would bring destruction and the potential loss of MORE life!?” Gorai raged making Shiro slink back at the imposing elder dragon, Shiro knew that in his younger years, Gorai was a very capable warrior and he retained that visage when he needed it.
“Alright alright, I'm sorry. Very well, we'll go with your plan to abduct Ruby and question her. I only pray that Ryu-Sosin will listen to this scheme of yours.” Shiro said as Gorai settled back into his seat; “Thank you my friend, the others will be heading back shortly, let us return and make this plan a reality.” He said as they both rose and returned to the Circle of Judgment where the others were waiting, Fara watching as the two entered and she immediately knew they had concocted something, Gorai going to speak as the meeting resumed; “My friends, I have a suggestion for how to handle this situation with Ryu-Sosin and his daughter Ruby...” He then went on to explain the plan in earnest to the rest of the Council with Shiro pledging his support to the plan while Fara watched the old drake who only a mere thirty minutes ago was adamantly calling for her beheading, but she and the rest of the Council went with Gorai's plans, saying it was the best option for not invoking Ryu's wrath.
“Very well then, we will assemble a team to capture Ruby, she is to be brought to us unharmed as I want no reason being given to her father to attack us. Are we all in agreement then?” Gorai said as the Council resounded in approval, adjourning the meeting with Shiro taking his own exit with Fara right behind him, she called to him to make him stop; “Shiro!” He stopped to converse with his fellow Council member as she looked at him sternly; “I know you Shiro and this is something you would NEVER go for, now I don't know what you're scheming behind our backs but know that I am WATCHING you.” She said quite sternly making Shiro smile coyly and hold up his hands; “Why Fara, I don't know WHAT you are talking about. I fully support Gorai and his plan as I feel it is the only reasonable course of action...” He said putting on as much charm as he was able to the female dragon who sneered and pointed her fingers to her eyes then to his before walking off, leaving Shiro to smile wickedly before going to a secret location in the Council building, meeting his pupil who happened to be second in command of the village Guard.
“Welcome Master Shiro, were you able to sway things to your liking?” He asked as Shiro scoffed; “No, that fool Gorai is too lenient to that bastard Ryu-Sosin, I had to go along with his plans for now, but I am assigning you to the task force of acquiring his daughter.” He said as his student smiled; “It will be my pleasure.” Shiro grinning at this; “But we must move with caution, Fara is sticking her snout where it doesn't belong and she may try and complicate things.” He said with an annoyed expression as his protege smiled deviously; “Then perhaps...she should be, removed from the equation...” He said making Shiro look at him funny before smiling back at him; “That's my boy, with your help I can FINALLY have my revenge on Ryu-Sosin! Prepare a squadron of your finest troops, bring Ruby to Gorai as planned but be ready for her execution!” Shiro said triumphantly as his servant bowed and left the room, going to ready a battalion of dragons to do Shiro's bidding. The elder drake leaving the room to make sure nothing went wrong, smiling as he was looking forward to the coming days, hoping that he would would end Ryu's line and with any luck...the drake himself.
Shiro also having a wicked thought that made him cackle to himself as he went to prepare a special arrangement for when Ruby was brought to him and the inevitable return of the worlds… “Hero...”
