" Maneki watched Sly enter the mayor’s office and moved along the rafters silently to follow him. The rafters above the mayor’s office were boarded more heavily, offering the calico a chance to get comfortable. She peered down through a hole in the board and settled in to watch the meeting.
The chair in the room faced the large window in the back of the office behind the desk. Sly walked in slowly with soft steps. “Locke Village. Isn’t it a fine city?” asked the male voice from the chair. “Yes it is. You’ve done a fine job leading it.” replied Sly. “Thank you for the kind praise. But as with any city there are things that threaten the peace and stability aren’t there?” asked the mayor. “Yes. And some elements need to be taken care of don’t they?” asked Sly a little cryptically. “Yes but before that business, how have you been old friend?” asked the mayor with a smile as the chair turned around, revealing him to be an albino tiger. Shoulder length brown hair adorned his head, his light blue eyes pierced through the air at Sly, a powerful man indeed in both status and demeanor. “I’ve been great sir.” replied Sly. “Come on Sly, can we drop the formalities? We’ve known each other for years, and I am not going to call you ‘Lord’.” said the tiger laughing heartily. “Fair enough. How’ve you been Aitora?” asked Sly in return. “I’ve been fairly decent. The economy of the village is doing well. And I haven’t had any reports of thefts in a few days; which may be testament to why you’ve asked for an audience with me today. Can I assume then that you’ve come with good news?” asked Aitora hopefully. “Yes. The plan succeeded and both Maneki and Luck were caught in the trap.” said Sly. “Excellent. And what of the diamond?” asked the tiger quickly. “You may return it to the Duke of Windsor with my thanks.” said Sly opening the chest he’d brought with him. Inside lay a cushion with two grooves. One was empty, the other was occupied by the Twilight Diamond. “Ah good. So your plan went off without a hitch then?” asked Aitora as he took the gemstone from the chest and moved it to a safe hidden under his chair. “More or less. You have my assurance that neither of the feline thieves Maneki or Luck will plague your village any further.” replied Sly seriously. “So serious. So I take it you have some proof to back up this claim? A pair of bodies perhaps?” asked Aitora cryptically. “I didn’t bring them with me. Their lives as uncontrolled rogues ended in my castle and so that’s where they shall remain. I do however have the proof you require.” said the wolfox turning over the sack he was carrying. Maneki and Luck’s clothes tumbled out of the bag. Pinned to each was a small lock of the previous owner’s hair. “Are these…” “Enchanted clothes that once belonged to Maneki and Luck? Yes, just as the report you gave me stated.” said Sly seriously. “That report came from the thieves guild through a former thief and colleague of mine. I didn’t really know if the information was true or not, but I went along with it once I found out that they had been kicked out of the guild. Thieves are pretty vengeful when crossed.” said Aitora a little absently. “Well the information was accurate alright.” confirmed Sly. “The report also stated that there was a valuable dagger in the possession of Luck. What became of it?” asked Aitora, his eye gleaming. “It’s right here.” said Sly opening the chest again, beneath the gem cushion was a secret compartment. Inside of it lay the dagger that Luck once possessed. A dagger made to disrupt and destroy runic symbols. “I knew that you’d want to see it as proof as well.” said Sly handing the blade to the tiger. “I apologize for being mistrusting, but may I try it?” asked Aitora seriously. “Of course.” said Sly taking the quill from his hat and drawing a simple runic shape on the desk before them. “This is a simple healing rune. Give it a minute to activate.” he said as he stepped back. The ink flickered softly before beginning to glow; slightly at first, but growing to a full blue shine. “Give it a try now, run the tip of the blade across the middle line.” instructed Sly. Aitora nodded and did just that. The rune flickered again and the symbol warped around the cut before disappearing completely. The tiger male looked at the blade astonished. “So this is how she got past runic security.” said Aitora amazed. “Yes. She carried a small book with her with knowledge of how to disrupt most rune types. A very troublesome tool it is.” said Sly. “But this alone wouldn’t help them do all of the things they did would it?” asked Aitora. “No. The other thief; Maneki had a proficiency with mechanical traps. She knew where to look to find the panels to disable them, and was good at it with her lockpicks.” said Sly with a slight smile thinking on the traits he knew of the two felines.
“You speak a bit highly of them. Do you regret accepting the contract?” asked Aitora curiously. “Only a little.” replied the wolfox truthfully. “You know you could have turned down the contract if you felt so strongly against the possibility of taking their lives.” said Aitora seriously. “I know. But I didn’t have much of a choice. The contract came to me on a recommendation from Katsaya. If I had turned down your offer, the contract made it clear who your next choice would be…” started Sly. “…The former warden of Hysang Prison. Lord Bartholomew. The villagers wanted me to go straight to him you know, but he would have charged us at least triple what you are.” said the mayor. “That’s true, but the payment was only part of the reason I decided to take the job. Bartholomew wouldn’t have killed them. He wouldn’t have even taken them to the prison. He would have enslaved them.” said the wolfox. “Is that so bad for a pair of thieves? A lifetime of servitude to atone for their crimes.” said Aitora dismissing the tone in his friend’s voice. “Believe me when I say that enslavement by that man is a fate worse than death.” said Sly seriously. “How do you know?” asked Aitora confused. “I would rather not get into it. Just suffice it to say that you have heard the man’s history. I have history with the man.” said Sly cryptically. “I see. I won’t pry. Well in any case thank you for your service to this village. Your payment will arrive at your castle by messenger tomorrow morning. And since I can tell that the outcome of your mission is weighing on you. You can keep the dagger as a memento.” said Aitora handing the blade back to Sly. “Thank you Aitora. I would have insisted on keeping it anyway.” replied Sly. “Alright then; if that’s all I have to eat lunch before another meeting this afternoon. Care to join me for a bite?” asked the tiger. “Normally I would, but I have a few more errands to run today before I head back home.” said Sly as he placed the dagger back in the box. “Suit yourself. I hope to see you again soon Sly.” said Aitora as the wolfox turned to leave. “I’ll make sure of it.” said Sly stepping out of the room. The door closed, leaving Aitora alone. “Finally the thieves have been stopped and a sense of calm can once again take root in this fair city.” said the tiger softly. "

As always. Wonderful job on the story scene here Mrs. Shana. The details and positioning are spot on for what's being portrayed. And thank you as always for the story plug. It really helps to explain what's going on in the scene illustrated.
Oh and sorry I forgot to mention this. Aitora is
