I wouldn't actually say that about myself <:/ but I think this is relevant to a conversation I was having with him when I was getting upset because a friend of mine was SUDDENLY doing everything I do and SUDDENLY shared the same interests and SUDDENLY even wanted the same job, and I felt like she was copying me

It's a reference to an old, super childish joke. When someone is called special as a positive term, assholes add the word 'needs' to make it negative, and then laugh to themselves like they are the Shakespeare of insults.
