For my latest presentation on "Throwback Thursday", we go back to December, 2015, when I'd attended the annual pre-Christmas meeting of Scrabble Club 276 in Lauderhill, Florida...
As always, our club president Sandee Bloom gives away a special prize for the player who can come up with the best word associated with Xmas/Christmas (during the first two games). And the other players get to vote on said word. This year's prize is a small coffee mug with a snowman adorning it...
At the 2014 pre-Christmas meeting, I'd blown my chance of winning, by coming up with too many words during Games 1 & 2. The players split their votes among my words, so that the best of my words only got two or three votes, while the winning entry (from one lone player) got more than three votes and won the prize. But this time, I'd kept my words down to a select few - including JOYS, TOT, and SNOW...
Coincidentally enough, it was SNOW that got the most votes, and earned me said coffee mug! Sandee took a picture of me (and the prize) with her digital camera, which I can finally share with you now. Naturally, I was dressed up for the occasion, wearing my Santa cap and an aporpos 'Pepe Le Pew' holiday T-shirt (which, obviously gave me some good luck)...
As for 2016, the first Scrabble Club 276 meeting I'd attended (on 1-13-16) was the 27th Annual Awards Night, where many of its members collected a variety of documented awards, and some special tokens of appreciation. I will hope to share a few 'photo-ops' from that occasion during my next 'sweeps month' (February, 2016).

The mug was among some of the stuff I'd won over the fifteen-plus years I was a member of Scrabble Club 276. Additional prizes I'd earned included an audiobook version of "The Perfect Storm", various food stuff (including a jar of peanut butter, a box of matzohs, and even a box of Stove-Top Stuffing), several picture frames, and even a mini utility knife). And the (1-13-16) meeting, even a extra Powerball Lottery ticket was given out as the prize... and I'd just missed getting it by one mere point! I'll explain the circumstances, when I post the 'photo-ops' from that meeting next month!
