writing challenge day 6 "what happens during writers block"
a while back, i set myself up on a writing challenge. go a month, writing a new story every day, (500 words on days i worked, 1000 words son days i was off) with a theme given to me by my friend
gothicvixen-autumn during this time, i banned myself from any videogames and computer, limiting myself to books and skype mobile to chat with friends on occasion.
although i failed the challenge, i decided to upload my work here now. Some of them are good, some of them are.. not good. some of them are finished, some are works in progress. comes with the territory i suppose. as always, constructive criticism is always welcome <3
Ruary quietly sat at his desk at work. His foot tapped to a beat that was a mixture of the country on the radio, and the nightcore in his headphones.
In his hand was his favorite notepad and pen. The store had no customers at the moment, his usual signal to pick up his book or pen. But, the bookmark rested on the cover, as a signal hed finished that just a little bit prior.
"time to write.." He muttered to himself over and over, while song after song finished, and with nothing but little ink dots on the paper.
"Alright, fuck it. Im going in " he muttered quietly. Raury started to take off his headphones, but a taylor swift song reminded him that meditation would probably be easier with them. Then he closed his eyes, pulled up his feet into (lotus) position, and held his hands upright.
"Ohmm" he chanted. Letting his voice blend with the music until he attained his goal.
As was the norm, he caught himself near the water fountain in the center of town, where all his emotions lived. Raury sighed softly; he wasn't sure why, but whenever he had a writers block, his head felt hotter on the inside. "Remind me to build a vacation home here, with how often i visit these days" a slight chuckle rolled out of his mouth, as he looked around.
"Let me see, if i remember.." He wandered down a culdesac sidewalk, pointing his finger to every house he walked past.
All of them a pleasant red brick, but they all stood out by the decorations, paint, and lawns.
"Sadness with the wilting flowers, lazyness with overgrown grass, Anger, with the broken door.. aaand... Inspiration, with the mural paint!" Ruary sauntered up and knocked on the door. No response. Raury tried again, before a thought crossed his mind; "this is my head, i can do what i want." With this revelation, he opened the door and barged in.
Much to his shock, the house wasn't only empty, it was trashed. "Oh boy, it looks like lazy got a hold of inspiration's house" Raury carefully made his steps through the house. Dimly lit by only sunlight through a curtained window.
The harder Raury looked, the more he saw. Tables were flipped, furniture was destroyed, and then, he saw it. Claw marks on the bed frame. A cold chill ran down his spine, and it stayed. Raury Shivered even despite the heat. "This.. Is not good" he muttered under his breath. His hair beginning to stand on end, prompting him to turn and face the eyes he was sure was drilling into the back of his head.
A green ball with arms and legs was standing in the doorway of inspirations house; Jealousy. His mouth agape, shock spread across his face. Shortly after, followed the rest of the crowd; Sadness, Lust, Happiness, Gluttony, Hyperness, more, even Laziness reared his sleepy head for the occasion... Except anger, who Raury noticed, was mysteriously absent. As soon as each of them arrived, whatever emotion they were before, seemed to match that of Fear or Shock.
"GO! Get to the town center! Stay there till i say otherwise! There is safety in numbers." Raury barked out his orders, then watched, waiting for every emotion to disperse before leaving Inspiration's house, locking the door behind him. Again, Raury watched the emotions start to gather and gossip around the fountain. Impatiently tapping his foot, as he waited for them to properly collect, before making his way towards Anger's house. The door was still broken, presumably from being slammed one too many times, but otherwise was in rather decent shape.
Raury pounded against the door loudly "come on out , before i have to come in on my own Anger!"
With a few heavy footsteps, the door swung open on its only remaining hinge, on the otherside was another orb with appendages, but this one a bright red. "WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" He yelled loudly, before putting an icepack back on his head.
Raury glared and snarled. "Inspiration is missing, and you're the primary suspect." Raury only got angrier the longer he was around the red sphere. "Under what evidence!?" He barked back, voice a little lower , but no less furious.
"Youre his closest neighbor, and there was signs of a struggle! Youre the most physically capable around here! Furthermore, you were the only person who didnt crowd around to see what i was investigating!"
Anger rolled his eyes "thats some pretty hard evidence there sherlock, think you got me booked. Inspiration had been working like crazy lately, he was probably tired and weak enough that sadness could have overpowered him. For that matter, Jealousy's house is just as far away as mine on the other side, and doesnt the criminal always come back to the scene of the crime to make sure his plan worked? Now, i have a hangover, so kindly SHUT UP! Fuck-nuts." Anger got louder and louder with every word, until the final insult was muttered under his breath. Anger then slammed the door in Raury's face, before storming back inside.
Raury paused, he pondered everything Anger had to say; he wasn't sure Anger wasn't the culprit yet, but it gave him some things to consider before he booked anyone.
Finally, after much thought, Raury looked back at the crowed, to make sure everyone was there. One by one he counted the emotions that lived in this neighborhood, before making his way to Jealousy's house. It seemed to have parts that were copied from nearly every house here, stealing each idea. Most obvious, was the really poorly forged mural; stolen from Inspiration.
Raury gulped, taking one more look, before making his way into the house. He couldn't place it, but something felt off. The fung-schwa was completely wrong, as if all the furniture was hastily moved around.
Raury kept his search of the house quiet, an eerie sensation haunted his frame, until he saw something really out of place. A bookshelf, full of guides on how to be inspiring. Raury darted to the bookshelf, pushing it out of the way as best as he could, when footsteps mingled with his grunts. A familiar green orb wandered around the corner "RAURY! What are you doing here!?" He asked, sweat trickling down his face as he asked.
"I think.. A better question.. Is what Inspiration is doing here!" Raury jumped to his conclusion; he was pretty damn sure this time.
Without another word, the green sphere attempted to tackle Raury, but the part couldn't hope to overpower the whole. Raury easily tossed the ball to the ground. But as Jealousy was thrown, he clutched to the bookcase; accidentally pulling it down to crash down , flattening himself in the process.
Raury winced as a green pulp sprayed from beneath the bookcase.
"MNHMNN!" He heard. Turning to find the swirling multicolored ball that is Inspiration, tied to a pipe in the hidden room.
