A couple of vintage icons produced for the runners up of a ‘Tasty Cover’ design competition I ran a while back on DA.
These icons are, in essence, a character sketch worked over a custom textured background (made to look like old paper) with the ever-present splat to finish the whole thing off. :) The idea for these had been floating around in my mind for a while, so it was great to finally try the technique out.
One was an unusual request for my Sweeney and Mrs Lovett characters having a ‘tender’ moment, and drawing this was bloomin’ hard! Guh! I’m so used to drawing them scowling and moaning at each other. Although the original String of Pearls mentions nothing about a romance between them, it’s possible that the characters may have been fond of each other when they first met… possibly.

hmmm. maybe one of jil in kind of ragged looking 1920s or 30s glamour clothes, maybe a fur coat? kind of an image of "faded glory." i think something like that would look brilliant in your style. :)

Oh wow! I'd LOVE to do something like that! :D I'm thinking a sly expression... maybe kind of 'daaarling'... hee hee.
I'll probably have your icon done for the end of the week, as it's something that I can work on 'on the go', so to speak, or if not for Friday, the weekend for def!
Oh! And I've been meaning to tell you for absolutely aaages... there's a character in the String of Pearls called Captain Rathbone. Although he's a 'he', I thought I'd make him a westie as a tribute to your character. I really do think there should be a westie in the Sweeney story, don't you? :D

either that or maybe a sort of sad, nostalgic thing... evoking images of the final moments in "gypsy," hahaha. :D i'm so obsessed.
and yes. there definitely should be a westie in the sweeney story. if not lovett herself, then certainly somebody! they're popular dogs over in your neck of the woods, they should be present!
