Actually, yes. The Japanese version was targeted around older teens. The manga are the perfect example of how dark the show actually is. The plot gets so terribly downplayed when they cater it to children in the English dub.

But I think even if somebody changes the own name or the personality to show in public, the first name given by the parents, is something special and anything else added or changed about it is just a mere cover.
But that doesn´t mean it wouldn´t be possible to have a complete change in the name and the meaning of it

I learned this kind of thing from Ursula K. leGuins Earthsea novells and after a little research, I found out that the name is an important magic tool in Europe´s history in magic traditions^^

I must admit I´m impressed that you use your artowork for some relevances from histories. Gives your work more meaning, the use of it as an easter egg makes it interesting ; )
