Caves and Critters - Chapter 8 Page 46
One thing I always hate in shows and comics (most often occuring in bad anime) is the over-exposition of a character's past and reasons for doing whatever they do the moment it becomes apparent to the viewer. So I like to keep things in the back pocket - set in stone but waiting for a more apropos moment to reveal them. Ivan's past relation to a Templar and Jax's peculiar reaction to said Templar(s) are among those things. :3

Hmm...well, I've got two theories on the reactions here. First, Ivan cuts in to say "Ivan is free man". That implies to me that the Theocracy held him against his will in some manner in the past. As to Jax's reaction, it goes along with my reply to silverfang16 above. He's on his own, likely unsanctioned, undercover assignment, and if seen by a paladin or templar and recognized, Especially how unsubtle the paladin is, his cover could be blown.
I feel this project is either an attempt to use over-enchanting and that's why they need a blacksmith that can make stuff fast or something creepy that would bind a person's essence to metal cause if it was a simple invention like a tank or automaton he'd have said invention or project without making it a bad censoring of himself.
I do think he in part needs his blacksmithing as he doesn't look the sort to give compliments lile that with a serious face if it isn't true yet the offer's light conditions look faker than a gold coin split open and filled with copper.Igues the lying is why both parts are in separate balloons as I doubt he would free him or let him outlive the job.
Fox dude running away implies no one should rely on the bunny as his plans would usually require sacrificing friend and foe.Bunny doesn't look stupid seems like the type to use a facade to make all around lower their guard and make himself look legit when he stops joking like in the last pannel.

True. On the other hand, since comics are a medium that update fairly slowly, a large gap between something being revealed and it becoming explained can result in the Something being forgotten.
For example, Ivan was introduced nearly a year ago. When he reappeared a couple of pages back I'd forgotten him so thoroughly I assumed he was a new character and only went back to re-read it because other people recognised him.
Similarly, when I read through the Vol 1 book I got at AC last year, a lot of things clicked into place because I was reading it all in a binge rather than a weekly update schedule.

I plan things out as if they're being read "in a binge", though, since that's likely how most of CnC's total readers will take it in - I can't count how many comics I've come across and read clear through that had already finished or were in their final chapter when I found them. I want CnC to be as enjoyable once I'm done with it as it is while I'm working on it :3
