I think I understand your worries about the gradient, because it sort of fades into a weak grey. It could be fixed by setting the second gradient colour to a lighter, more saturated brown, or making the linework a slightly darker brown than what’s there already. That said, it still works, and doesn’t detract form the linework, which is pretty damn sweet; very clean and plenty of variation in thickness.
