This is my character, Tomino (finally named), created by
tomoyokinomoto in a side-by-side comparison of the piece it was based off of. It's part of a series of works called "Nine Stages of Decomposition of the Heian Period Empress Danrin."
Tomino is a rabbit/red panda hybrid based heavily on Lady Murasaki, who has been credited with writing the world's first known novel, "Tales of Genji."
The original drawing by Pwips is here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/17780959/
And here's the drawing I did alone: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/18820128/

While I think it's great to use other art for inspiration and learning purposes, I noticed this is traced line for line, besides the character's head. I think it would be appropriate to acknowledge verbally that you traced the bulk of the image, despite the fact it's very obvious anyway.
Tracing is a touchy subject among the art community! You could potentially run into some resistance from people, if you continue to work this way.

I was prepared for someone to make this comment, and I totally understand what you're saying! I never ever trace from someone else's work, but this illustration is not only historic, but so old it's considered public domain. The artist was unknown, as well. Despite this, I gave the name of the original image here and also showed that this was an extremely similar image. If it helps, the illustration (along with its other pieces) are located in the Honolulu Museum of Art, and I'll even give you a link to where you can see the rest of this scroll: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/.....Empress_Danrin
This is more of a sort of modernized/personalized version of this unknown artist's piece, it was mainly just made for me to put my character in the era that I based her in and put her in the clothing I meant for her to wear, for some extra reference.
I'd also like to mention that even though this is partially traced, it still took a long time to complete and perfect, because every detail had to be taken into account for this to be respectable enough to be compared to its parent piece while still giving it a twist of my own.
I in no way intend to rip off anyone. I do not trace from other artists at all, the only time I trace is when I have to get the basic shape of a photograph (that I've taken myself) before painting it, to get the proportions right. I hope that gives you some better understanding? I really hope you aren't upset by this, that's the exact opposite of why I make art at all! (; - ; )
