The further adventures of gay one, gay two, and pudgebot 9000.
I just felt like sketching something surf-y to get into the mood for FC'09. I'll be there for the day Sunday, from probably noonish to at least until my painting panel finishes at 11pm. I'll try to drop by the FurPlanet and Sofawolf tables and lurk there for a bit to greet/sign if anyone is interested. The Work In Process tutorial book and the coffee cats poster will both be available for sale at the FurPlanet table, and I'll be helping pimp Rikoshi's book Thousand Leaves over at the Sofawolf table.
I hope to see a bunch of you at the digital painting panel in the San Carlos room from 9-11pm that Sunday -- in the meantime, I hope everybody's having fun with con prep. I'll probably wind up posting more before FC rolls around, but I figured I'd start putting info out there to make sure folks who want it, have it <3

Hey, I know the limits of my linework. The lines are basically just in there to give context to the colors ^_^
When I try to render everything out in detailed lines, it tends to get stiff and dead, so these days I tend to try to let the colors and shapes do most of the talking <3

Yeah, that's one really nice thing about using anatomy reference, I think. Taking the guesswork out of it means you can simplify your lines because you're not trying to figure out the forms as you go. A lot fewer, more confidently placed strokes wind up getting the same form across a lot more elegantly ^_^
Yeah, I was surfing the web (HA!) for beachy pictures, and found some pics of dudes just kind of walkin' along, then wound up laying them out on the page in a way that kind of created an implied story/connection between them.
Drawing people from reference is so much easier/better/faster, it's sick @_@

I think what I like the most is the use of the benday dots. Generally, they're kind of overused to suggest old printing techniques while here they feel more like a texture. And it doesn't surprise me at all that you went from blue to red/orange! Hah! Accept it, you're a red dood! Are you going to print this up? Would look great even just on a piece of watercolor paper in the ol' inkjet. And are you only going to be at con on sunday?! What's with that?
Yeah, I think this would print up pretty on watercolor paper! Haha, maybe I'll make a single print and sell it to try to defray some of what I paid yesterday for a new desktop machine after my last one blew-screened on me 9_9
As far as colors go, I thought that electric teal popped pretty well against the light greenish-blue background I had before, but then I added that orange gradient and it went atomic. I was like, "awww yeah." ^_^
And I think we're only really planning to be down for that Sunday, yeah. Ben (who is also my ride <3) works over the weekend, so I think a daytrip situation is the easiest to swing.

Man, I wish I could go! Damn this.... "college" and stuff. (Oh, and that cursed word, 'budget')
Also, I really like how this turned out. The dots (whatever you call them) oddly enough add to the feel of the image in a way, and their contrast with the gradient in the background is quite nice :3

It's Photoshop <3 But yeah, working from reference makes for waaaay more fluid linework, just because it cuts out that feeling-around-in-the-dark phase. I can't imagine how awesome it must be to have that kind of surety in figures drawn from imagination -- that's still a far-off dream for me ^_^
And I've never surfed, but I've skied, and I can kind of imagine it being the same sort of fun ^_^ And also wetsuits.

Yeah, I really have no idea how many people to expect there. I suppose the more, the merrier, but I'm kind of secretly hoping for some indistinct sweet spot between too few to be worthwhile and enough to be terrifying. ^_^
But yeah, uh, should you suddenly decide to hop a flight, we'll clear space for you <3

Thanks, dude ^_^ I don't know about anatomically correct, considering they're animal-men, but I do definitely tend towards less toony stuff. And I can use all the practice I can get on staying loose with inks -- I tend to get really uptight and finicky about my lines, and that tends to make for boring linework >_<
