LOL......getting old is such fun!!! It beats the alternative though, as all those pollyana types point out.
But even when I DO manage to smile I have a snaggle front tooth that looks dorky as hell. I really need to get it fixed but can never remember to or feel like it when I'm in Mexico and it's cheap.

Unfortunately I never got my grandparents stories. They were not the story telling type. But I've met some real characters here and there along my way that were something else. I was especially interested in the old west and how the indians (as Native Americans were still called then) lived before and during the invasion of the white man. I actually met and spent a fair amount of time with a quite elderly Hunkpapa Sioux man who was born in a tepee on the Rosebud River and spent a bit of his childhood living the old way before the sh*t hit the fan. He had wonderful stories to tell of life and fights and so many things. For a bottle of Tokay he'd talk all afternoon long. One day I went over with a bottle and some time to find him dead. Someone had given him Prestone to drink and he couldn't tell since it is sweet like tokay wine.
Anyway...sorry to delve into old wounds like that but ....
I really wish I HAD gotten to know more about my grandparents. I've since found a diary my grandfather kept of induction into the army in WW1 and being sent to France. Then marching around and dodging mortar shells and sneaking off to see what it was like where the action was. It ends when he was deployed further inland. How I'd love to have heard about this and his other recollections straight from him!!

Uh huh. That same grandfather used all sorts of salty expressions that I use myself today and taught me a lot of life lessons when I used to visit him for summer vacations. Mostly he taught by example. Which is probably the best way too.
Yeah, it sucked big time. Yet an end that was foreshadowed by his youth. And can sort of serve as a symbol of how his race has been treated since Europeans hit the continent.
