a comparison meme i did as a warmup this afternoon! late December 2010 vs Jan 2016.
the characters are a human OC of mine named Giles Stamford and an animal companion. they're from an original story of mine called Horrido. the companion is an original species that i call Sparrows. they look like giant mechanical birds that people of Giles's country use for ground or air labor and transport. they're a blend of mechanical components and organic, and they don't look too like birds underneath that helmet.
i remember the top piece taking me like, 10 hours or something. it was the first time i'd tried to do digital painting.
the bottom piece i obvs didn't spend as much time on. it took me about an hour. i would probably use a similar colouring style were i to do a colour comic instead of black and white.
i think it's safe to say i've improved in my human art these past 6 years lmao.

i think that i was just making my first FA account in summer 2011. Supplanter was the closest thing i had to a fursona back then.

I'll be honest, i actually like your first picture in comparison. I do see the times you spent in comparison and understand that you didn't spend nearly as much time on the second one. Though it is safe to say you are defiantly able to do quality art in less time then you did before, which is great reason to celebrate. Also I tend to like darker art so I'm a bit more biased.
hey, that's fine! this isn't a perfect reproduction of the top piece. i almost didn't want to post it here because of that. ^^;
the top pic i did on a super old monitor that was terribly balanced for graphics, so the colours in this submission are edited for brightness and contrast. the colours are so dark you almost can't see anything on the file itself. i guess i overcompensated on the bottom lmao.
it's kinda cool to see too, side by side, how each one has good points, instead of the old one being totally garbage. this was also the oldest piece i could find in any of my online galleries. yay progress!
